aalok_gaitonde
Guys, please suggest a monopod[with a separate or fixed ballhead], preferablyunder 65$. I havent used them before, so I would like you people to suggestsome. I am 6 ft tall and I would be using the 400D along with the 100-400mm. I am not expecting any pro pods... basic ones...., heavy/light does not matter Aalok
ellis_vener_photography
Ballheads anre unnecesary with monopods -- it fact they tend to get in your way.
cgo
I can't remember what I paid but I am pleased with my Bogen 3018 (AKA Manfrotto 434).
aalok_gaitonde
Shall I go ahead with the Canon Monopod 100 ? http://www.amazon.com/gp/offer-listing/B0002YE6EU/ref=dp_olp_0?ie=UTF8&condition=all
leopoldstotch
The Manfrotto 679 is about $50, and can easily support the weight of an XTi with 100-400. I'm also 6 feet tall, and I find it just the right height.
hjoseph7
Slik 381 CF carbon fiber Pro Monopod. It's a little more expensive, but a charm to use. Light as a feather and very compact. http://www.amazon.com/381-CF-Carbon-Fiber-Monopod/dp/B00009R6P6
ronald_moravec1
You need some way to tilt the camera for verticals. I use a simple Manfrotto tilt-one axis. Monopods are worthless if the camera can not be brought to eye level as you need your body to steady it. Gitzo make an extra tall one which is what I have. Ask at B&H for that model. cgo
I have a Bogen 3265 "pistol grip" on my Bogen 3018 monopod ... Just search Google for Bogen 3265
gary_watson
Get the big 2-section Manfrotto. More than 2 flip-locs/sections is just too fiddly and sacrifices stability. The cheap Manfrotto flip head(#234?) with an RC2 QR plate is all you really need. Ball heads of any flavor just don't work for me on a monopod. I'd rather spend time/energy/attention getting the shot, not futzing with a ball head.
JDMvW
Opteka MP100 67" -$15 try eBay. I got one from Amvona in an auction, but they don't seem to be offering monopods right now. Are the Bogen and Manfrottos under the OP's target of $65 with a head?
aalok_gaitonde
Thanks a lot guys for your quick responses. Leopold, I like your suggestion... The monopod you suggested is infact very good, but theonly drawback is its height... Its a bit short for me [182 cms] :( The only reason I am falling for the Canon Monopod 100 is its height... 165 cms... Regards, Aalok
dbltap4
Bought a monopod last year and I hardly use it. I don't think it really assists that much in holding the camera steady. Jim
