scott_avanzo
I've recently started a youth photography company with far less knowledge of what i thought I knew. I have a contract with the local BB league for portrait and team shots. This could be a once a year thing, because all our other contracts are outdoor sports. I'm needing someone to guide me in what i need to purchase. It looks like I'll need 3 individual stations and 2 team stations. I was hoping to get buy with a flash on the camera but I have been told otherwise. I don't want to spend alot but I can't afford to produce an unexceptable product. Any input is greatly appreciated. mharris
Scott there are some nice little package deals that have everything you need for just a few hundred bucks. Check B&H, Adorama, and Freestyle for lighting kits. Two lights, stands, and umbrellas will do all you need. Have fun! Michael
douglas lee
I have not done this type of shooting, but I have seen it done many times. The company that has done our youth BB photos sets up 2 stations. One for individual, one for group. Two lights, umbrellas and a background. Each team had a time slot and showed up at the appropriate time. Again, that is how they do it around my community. Good luck and Michael's advice seems to be right on the money. morganfam7
You can rent the equipment from a good camera shop. In my area, a 10x12 background is $25 and lighting is anywhere from $10-$40. You may end up spending close to $150 for the rental, though, so it might be better to buy like Michael suggested.
mark newcombe www.mcnphoto
Marcy is right just rent it you'll earn enough to buy it for next time. If bb is out side i'd give a back drop a miss especially in wind. you should be able to get some nice stuff with a field in the background then just use graphics in post. If outside you will probably get buy with on cam just for fill i don't usually use heads unless i take my mobile tent. If you need help with packages and the like email me. cheers Mark
designonline
Definitely get some heavy phonebooks or sandbags to anchor everything down. It only takes one person tripping or messing around and down they go. I get by with just one off camera light (580 exII with a soft box) and one on the hot show for fill. Cheap and easy.
