My Pentax ME Super is not registering changes done to the Aperture Ring

I just got this Pentax ME Super that I bought from Ebay. Everything works fine

but for some reason when I make changes to the aperture ring to the SMC Pentax-

M 50mm lens, it doesn't register. I think it involves how the lens is coupled

to the camera. Is there a way to fix this?

If you push the tab on the ring down does the meter change? Do you have another lens you

can try on the camera? Can you see the corresponding tab in the lens move as you turn the

aperture ring?

I only have that one lens and I have push the ring down and it registers. Also the tab does move if I change the aperture setting.

exactly what do you mean by "it does not register"? Suppose you set the camera to bulb (B) and the lens to f/22 cock and fire and look either through the back of the camera with the door open or into the lens: do you see the blades snapping in and out upon release? Repeat the same with the lens set to f/8, notice the diff? if it snaps in and out, then there's nothing wrong with the aperture actator lever. If by registering you meant that the meter does not respond, then it'd be a different story...

By not register I mean it doesn't register the changes made to the aperture. Still says the same shutter speed no matter what aperture setting I use.

ok, and it's doing this while the selector switch is set to Auto or to M (in manual mode does pushing little buttons do anything)? Which speed is it reading? do different leds light up as you point the camera from a lighter to darker subject?

It's doing it in both auto and manual. In auto the different LED light do change when point the camera from a lighter to darker subject.

It certainly sounds like the link between the camera and the lens is not working, but without

another lens to attach to the camera, it is difficult to know if the body or the lens is at fault.
