jen_stewart
Hello everyone, I was trying to find this answer by searching google and came across your forum. I just bought the D300 today, and was VERY happy with it as I looked at my photos on the LDC screen on the back, I was excited to view them in bridge on my computer and realized it didn't read. I tried to download the new ACR update 4.3 I noticed it said it's for CS3, but I thought I'd give it a try. Well it read my NEF files, and showed them in bridge, however I couldn't open ACR to edit them. I removed that plug-in and put back the one I had in there. So is there no DNG Converter for CS2 for the Nikon D300??? Please help. Thank you, Jen Stewart
michelle a.
There is an update for ACR which works for the D300 but it may be for only CS3........ Time to update your Photoshop?
jen_stewart
yeah, it's for CS3 only so far as I can tell. unless I'm missing an update for CS2, the one that was just released was for CS3 :( I don't want to have to shell out more cash right now considering I just spent all the money on the camera :(
colinsouthern
Relax. Download Adobe's latest DNG converter - convert your RAW files to DNG format - and then open them in any version of CS that you care to own. I checked - the D300 is supported: http://www.adobe.com/special/photoshop/camera_raw/DNG_4.3_Converter_ReadMe.pdf
jen_stewart
this is the converter I downloaded. I could view the photos in bridge, but when I tried to open them it said that I had an invalid version of CS. and so far as I can find, there is no DNG converter download without also the rest of the upload that goes with CS3
bgelfand
Go here: http://www.adobe.com/support/downloads/thankyou.jsp?ftpID=3824&fileID=3575 and download the ZIP file. The ZIP contains two file - Camera Raw and DNG. Just use the DNG and discard the Camera Raw file.
colinsouthern
Jen, I'm a bit confused - can you please just eMail me one of your RAW shots and I'll test the converter at this end for you. Cheers, Colin
jen_stewart
Thank you everyone, I found the converter, do I install it somewhere so that I can view the photos in bridge, and if so where?
rnt
Put the converter anywhere. You run it, point it at the NEF file, tell it where to put the resulting DNG file then open the DNG file in Bridge or Photoshop.
jen_stewart
Thanks so much Robert, not the most streamline way of doing things, I'm still bummed that Adobe doesn't offer and update for CS2, but it's a decent work around until we get lightroom or CS3. Thanks again for all the help!
colinsouthern
Jen wrote: "Thanks so much Robert, not the most streamline way of doing things" I'd suggest just the opposite - you can use the converter to copy the images from the card - rename them using a combination of sophisticated naming schemes - and convert them into a standardised format in the process (and doing away with *.XMP "Sidecar Files"). I'd say that was VERY streamlined. Cheers, Colin
