byron_fry1
Hey, quick question, if I throw a little portable heater in the bottom of my shower where my film is drying, will it do any damage? Just trying to improve on my two hour drying time.
nealcurrie
It won't do any damage unless the film gets too hot, which is unlikely. If the heater has a fan, it is likely to blow dust around and get stuck on your negs.
chris_waller
It will cover your film in dust. If you are not in a hurry then just let the film dry naturally. If possible, drape a large plastic bag over it, i.e. the type of bag used by dry-cleaners to cover evening dresses. You'll need to make a wire frame from two wire coat-hangers to keep the bag away from the film. It you do need to dry film quickly then you need either to buy a film-dryer or build something yourself - an old full-height metal locker with a 100 watt lamp in the bottom - BUT cover the the lamp with a piece of bent metal sheet to stop water dropping on it. frank.schifano
An electric dryer? In the shower? Where there is a possibility of it getting wet? I'm gonna read about your demise in the newspapers.
mike_s9
Cris has the right idea, and Frank's comments are very apt indeed. Maybe the post should read Response to Dying instead.! You can't help working with both Electricity and Water in the Darkroom, but it's a dangerous combination,so you have to be VERY carefull.! Drying Negs presumably comes under the " dry " side, which is where it should remain.!, keep your Negs well away from Water or Electricity.! Unless you have the luxury of a custon built Darkroom, and tons of space, you have to comprimise, all the more reason to be very carefull.!
