robert_clark
Does anyone know anything about a Leica/Nikon collaboration on a rangefinder camera, or are the rumours of a full frame with the new D3 sensor just wishful thinking? If it worked it would be worth going digital.
johnny massey
Nice rumour, I'll be watching . . . but not holding my breath.
icuneko
Will it be Leikon or Nica?
terry_rory
Sod the Leica, I would be more than happy with the D3.
Rob F.
I don't know what sort of sensor the D3 has; but unless it incorporates the offset microlens technology of the Kodak/M8 chip, I'd say it's likely to be an internet myth. Leica wasn't willing to go full-frame even with that novel technology.
vivek iyer
The D3 is a CMOS sensor with little UV and IR response (relative to the Kodak's ITO sensor)and has offset microlenses. If such a link up happens, let us hope that it will be priced at or below $2,000/-. Oh..they can call it anything they want.

fjords
Yehh, Mr. Hare, "U" have sherpas to pack around d@ D3...Would love to seen Nikon reliability and weather seals built into a M mount...digital
terry_rory
A sod is a divot or piece of turf. It is also about the most mild and inoffensive 'cuss' word used in the English language and can even be heard used in 1950s comedies that were rated suitable for family viewing. mharris
I almost got sodded once. I read reseller ratings before I gave the store my credit card number.
venividivici
Wow! D3 (based) sensor on the M9. That will be a killer with life view options. My 5 grand here, please, give me one of that!
raymond_tai
The Epson RD-1 used the sensor from the Nikon D70 so the idea is not impossible. Anyway if there is a collaboration I don't see what Nikon gets out of it since they have no new RF lenses to sell and the margins are in the lenses. Make a batch of new Nikkor RF lenses to compete with Leica? If so then what would be the point of such a collaboration? Doesn't make too much business sense. canfred
Actually we all know Nikon will take over Leica? I just couldn't resist. Cheers Manfred
bambang indrayoto
Nikon will be taken over by Canon. The brand will become Cakon for the body and Ninon for the lens. Leica will be bought by Sony. The brand will become Leony. Then they both will be taken over by Pepsi.

adrian bastin
A wind-up one, I think.
vivek iyer
Raymond, The sensor in Epson R-D1/s is the Sony sensor used in D100 and not the later D70. There is no sense in making any digital RF camera in any mount other than the M mount. M mount patents are history so anyone can make a cam with an M mount. Epson, HP, Cosina, Samsung, Nokia, LG..anyone..
steve salmons
Trevor Hare:"A sod is a divot or piece of turf. icuneko
"Sod ... can even be heard used in 1950s comedies that were rated suitable for family viewing." We Yanks weren't watching British comedies in the 1950s. And nothing was funny in the US then anyways. ;)
love4leica
Trevor's explanation of "Sod" is right but it is also used as a short term for sodomy.
vic_.
Trevor, that's the equivalent of saying that the hummer is an automobile. I recollect people saying "sod off," or "sod him." I don't think they were turf accountants.
vic_.
I hope Canon doesn't buy Leica, for then it's Caca.
noah
Robert, just curious, but where did you hear this rumour? I, for one, would gladly hand over the 5k for a full frame M-mount camera. Preferably one that doesn't need filters to make the color right. But I fear this rumour makes little sense financially for Nikon.
j.martin___
Here is a link to the rumour of a Nikon digital rangefinder. http://forums.dpreview.com/forums/readflat.asp?forum=1021&thread=24836605 I don't know what to compare it to. I had a Contax T2 which allowed quasi-manual focusing with a digital rangefinder. I would find the low-light capabilities of the Nikon sensor very attractive. vivek iyer
Not only the low light capability but the color fidelity also should be better! See the link given here: http://www.photo.net/bboard/q-and-a-fetch-msg?msg_id=00NMKP
