Hello all,

i just purchased a xenotar 150mm 2.8 lens and i would like to mount it on a

shutter. the lens elements fit into my compur #2 shutter but that has my Dagor

in it. so i am looking for another #2 shutter.. i looked at Sk grimes's web

site for more infor about these shutters and they came in 6 irregular sizes,

and they dont make them anymore.

on the schneider optics website, it stated that the shutter size is, "II 5/2+3"

whatever that means... my best bet is to buy a lens on ebay with a compur 2

shutter.

does anyome know which lenses to look out for? or have a compur 2 shutter

laying aroud for sale? thanks in advance for your help!!!

Hi !

I've seen such lens fitted into a bigger shutter with two reducing rings to reduce the size to the correct thread.

IMHO, you would have more facility finding someone able to do this job than finding a size II in good working condition. Even when they were made, they were scarce.

I _do_ second the Flutot advice.

Peter,

To find the correct no. 2 shutter follow Sheldon's advice: you need a 240mm Symmar convertible. Make sure NOT to buy the Symmar-S or any other flavor but plain old Symmar. I never tried a 165mm Angulon, but according the Schneider website it should work.

As an important aside, in the 1970s Compur stopped making (or Schneider stopped ordering) the special Compur II shutter, and all 240mm Symmars and 150mm Xenotars were fitted with adapters so they would screw into a Copal no. 3 shutters. So, if you can find a later convertible Symmar in a Copal 3, you can remove the cells, unscrew the adapters (not an easy task, you may need a machinist to help), and fit them to your Xenotar and the Copal 3.

As Schneider's designation intimates there were different Compur #2. 240 / 420 Convertible Symmar is correct info. Don't get the 180 Xenar f4.5 in Compur 2, it is a larger throat. Also don't get a non-Schneider Kreuznach lens in a Compur 2 as cell spacing was different with different mfr's and it was pre standardization era for shutters. Incidentally when you do get the correct shutter the early G-Claron 305mm Dagor type will also fit if you find one in a barrel cheap.
