hinman
I don't quite know what abstract means. I don't quite know what abstract means. I thought creating some image on a real object is an abstract but I seesomething very different that others call as a abstract. I am confused. Anyway, I put in a blog post on "People NeedThe Lord" a song that I find strength in lyrics and the soothingmelody. The light scenes that I choose to represent hope in thedarkness is this pick from all the light picture that I haveattempted, mostly very boring tone with just intense or some sense of lighting. The pictures can be boring and they are.

Light abstract -- People Need The Lord#1 pick

runners up in the 1st attempt that don't go to my blog:

All post processing are done in Picasa with pictures fromweekend's backyard while babysitting my two boys. Wouldthese be considered as abstract? What are the definition to callsomething an abstract? Is there ameaning to an abstract for something you can't explain what it is butit represents something. zach_abubeker
I would say abstraction lies in the way that you represent your subject. when the subject is taken completely out of context so you dont really have a clear idea of what you are in fact looking at. Paul Strand's modernist photography exhibits this well.
hinman
Thank you Zach. If my subject that I want to capture is already an abstract notion -- hope, how would one approach to have a picture representing hope. Other suggestions are welcome as I am stuck in getting a better picture than the above for challenge and self learning to find opportunity to shoot at something that also represents hope in a abstract way that can easily (different form abstract notion in the stated definition of abstract that carries ambiguity and subtlety in a picture with an ordinary object. And for above the attempt, I happen to have a shot on a Saturday afternoon shooting into the light in backyard. And the idea comes to me as inspiration upon photo editing on the above picture that light in darkness can easily represents hope. In that sense, is that still a valid title to call my picture above as an abstract photo, i.e. thinking that light in darkness gives the abstract notion of hope. C&C and correction are welcome as I find the term "abstract photography" very confusing for me as I want to find something (light & darkness) easy to understand to represent something that is hard to represent (hope) and I think my quest to find something easy to interpret adds value to photography in representing something complex -- simplifying the subject in an elegant way that can be achieved with thoughts and repeated attempts. Thanks you guys, Hin
