Multiple exposures with the K10D ...How?

Hmm. It's not that hard.

1. Click the Menu button

2. In the Record menu, scroll down to "Multi-exposure" and turn it ON by selecting the number of exposures that you want the K10D to combine.

3. You can also at this point experiment with Auto EV Adjust, but this is not essential to taking a multiple exposure shot. Hit the Menu button to save your selection and exit this selection screen. When you return to the Rec. Mode menu, "Multi-exposure", which previously said OFF, should now say "2 times" or something like that.

4. Take your first shot, then your second, and continue until you've taken the number of exposures that you specified (between two and nine). When you're done, the K10D will combine them into a single picture.

"It seems to me that this sort of thing that could be done best and easiest with Photoshop or some other software, rather than in camera."

I'm not sure about best, but certainly not easiest (unless you don't have a tripod). See my attached photo; I used 4 exposures in order to create long, thick, intense car light trails...in both directions! I waited for a while, but there never seemed to be thick traffic in both directions at once; using multiexposure allowed me to get the shot I wanted, with minimum hassle. Plus, when I got home I had only 1 file to process, instead of 4, which I would then have had to stitch together in Photoshop (adding more time I don't have).

Well anything can be done in photoshop...but why buy a camera if you only intend to sit behind a CRT/LCD and create pixels?

Seriously though I prefer in camera. Although I don't find I use it much...with film, I used to play with it all the time. Sometimes with good results.

Anyway, there are plenty of websites (from the film era) that explain multiple exposure techniques and how to do some crazy stuff.

You can do some really neat effects once you get a basic ideas down

Thanks to all for the replies,

I have finally solved the problem and the only thing that I was missing was:

choose Multiple exposures + number of exposures

"OK" button, then ... !!! I had to use the "Menu" button to get back to recording mode while saving the settings. This worked perfectly thereafter.

It was NOT quite as the manual or your replies (appreciated) indicated.

But, Hey! It now works!

Try doing this at night -

Set multiple exposures to 2.

Put your camera on a tripod, aim outside your window on faraway street lights, focus sharp, and click.

Without moving the camera, defocus a little bit, till the street lights become bigger blobs, and click.

The merged images will show both - the blobs with the sharp lights in their center.

You will also notice that the lights in the center of the frame have the sharp spots in the center of the blobs, and those towards the edge have the sharp spots towards the center of the frame. Spherecal abberation in the lens? I don't know, but would like somebody to throw some light (no pun intended !!!).

If all this is confusing due to my poor ability to write, please try it out for yourself at night. ;-)

Cheers.

Chetan,

I did try the multiple exposure setting and it works, thank you very much!

Now ... I have a serious problem:

I was taking some night shots and the moon was full and very brilliant. I usually do not have a problem with those, except this time, there is a very annoying artifact showing on most pictures.

I am sending some over for review; PLEASE do not take into consideration the out of focus, framing, etc ... just trying to find out what those greenish artifacts are.

I hope you pros can help!

(I actually did better with a simple oint and shoot Canon A610!!)

Cheers!<div>00N4xL-39333684.thumb.JPG.4fd5f12a01be48b7da866e8c1a374ca6.JPG</div>
