ferry_zanich
I have just been given an old wooden camera with a C.P. Goerz Berlin lens. It has the marking Serie III No 2, Serial No. 15966 and I believe the focal length is 180 mm. Does anyone know when this lens was manufactured in Berlin? jason_greenberg_motamedi
According to the list at http://www.largeformatphotography.info/classic-experts.html your lens was made between 1903 and 1905.
steve_hamley1
Jason, The list states the serials are for "American Optical" dagors; do the serials apply to Berlin Dagors? Steve
ole_tjugen
The goerz Berlin numbers are different, and not so easy to find out. But 16,000 is likely to be 1894. Since the first Serie III was patented in 1893 this would be a very early one. In 1900 was the upgrade to the f:6.8 Serie III which later became the Dagor, so if yours is f:7.7 that will go some way towards confirming the 1894 date.
