art_haykin
And just think, before ya know it, it'll be obsolete, and one with 2.8 billion pixels will be developed, and so on.
vivek iyer
I will gladly take a 12MP cam if someone would put two 6 MP APS-C sized Sony CCDs in a DSLR. Thank you.
paul robinson
During a casual search one day, I found this reference to a 500MP camera that can be built (it is claimed) for about $1300. http://www.cs.ubc.ca/~heidrich/Papers/EG.04.pdf It is based on a regular commercial scanner. The most expensive item is a Nikkor 300mm large format lens ($600). The authors of the paper claim it could be used for documentary work by, for example, small museums who could not otherwise afford expensive equipment or professional services. steve_bingham
I am first on the waiting list. I was informed that actual availability would be sometime in 2037.
daniel_hammond
Check out http://www.gigapxl.org/ Defining the upper limits of large-format film photography, digital scanning and image processing, custom-built Gigapxl? cameras capture images with unprecedented resolution. It would take a video wall of 10,000 television screens or 600 prints from a professional digital SLR camera to capture as much information as that contained in a single Gigapxl? exposure. see_r
Ach, the gearheads... Well, this CCD is likely to be useful pretty much only for the purpose for which it is shown--astronomy.
