skip_conklin
Hi, all, I have an Asahi Pentax k1000 which has an intermittantly working lightmeter. If it sets without being used for a day or two, the lightmeter will not work. If I put my flash unit on the hotshoe and take a picture, the meter will work until it sets for a while. Has anyone else experienced this problem, and have an idea how to fix it? I love the camera, and it takes great pictures, and I prefer using a manual only camers, but this is driving me nuts! Any help will be greatly appreciated. Skip
mel_unruh
I think I would take it to a repair shop for a good cleaning. That'll set you back $50-75 and there is a pretty good chance that will fix whatever is wrong (probably something like corrosion on cantacts or something similar). Or, for about the same money you can buy a used incident light meter (Sekonic or similar brand) and actually have a more accurate reading than the match needle you are used to. stefantveye
If you haven't already tried changing the battery, do that first. Often a dying battery is the first thing that causes these little problems. If that doesn't make a difference then dirty contacts would be the next thing to check out. If it's been more than a few years since you've had the body serviced, in my experience, spending the $50-$75 to have it cleaned and serviced would be worth it (especially if you love your K1000 as much as I love mine).
