Elinchrom Ranger Speed AS Power Pack

i have been commissioned on a very important on location shoot - and hence have ordered 2 Elinchrom

Ranger Speed AS power packs, thinking i would use one as a back up in case something goes wrong.

i am given only one hour for the shoot by my clients - plus or minus. i have just been reading thru the

manuals of the Ranger and it says a fully charged battery would give me up to 195 to 250 shots. in this

case, i have 2 batteries - but im sure i will shoot and need more than 500 shots, as the clients may

suddnely decide they need other shots.

what are my options in this case? i will be in the middle of no where... with no electrical outlets. should i

order a few more batteries to have on-hand? what other options or alternatives do i have... can i run it off

the car? some people said thats not advisable as the car will release semi-sinus waves that will be

damaging for my lights.

thoughts and help please... i have Sandisk memory cards to give me around 1400 shots... so i would need

batteries to at least match that figure.

I have the same pack with an additional battery, I find I can take up to 300/400 shots with one fully charged battery depending on the output setting I use. The estimate of up to 200 shots is at full power. So if you not going to be shooting at full power you will get more shots.

Hope that helps.

Having a few spare fully charged batteries is always a good idea anyway. You never know when something might go down in the middle of a shoot. Since you have gone to the expense of having a spare Ranger RX Speed AS, you may as well have a few spare batteries.

There is a Car Battery Supply Catalogue Number 11097 which is a dummy battery with leads that allows you to connect the pack to the terminals of your car battery. This means that you are tethered to the car. It may not be the solution you are looking for.

And if the shoot is all that important, please, please, please test the packs with a test photo session or three before using it for that all important gig. It doesn't help to fumble around with new equipment in the middle of a shoot.

1,400 shots an hour - the mind boggles! That's a shot every 2.5 seconds - what are you

shooting?

The Ranger's are specced to recycle to full power in 2.5 seconds, but I'd be surprised if one

unit would survive being fired 1,400 times in an hour. I'd check with Elinchrom before the

shoot.
