sonja_mcgill
Hi, I hope someone can help me out with this problem. I uploaded some pictures a few days ago from my Pentax DL to my computer. Today I tried and nothing works! When I connect the cable... it just doesn't recognize that it is plugged in. These are the steps I took to try to resolve this problem: 1. I went into the menu and made sure that the transfer mode is on Pic and it was... 2. I also took out the batteries let the camera sit for a while ( I read this in the manual) and nothing... 3. I re-formatted the card 4. tried a different card and a different pc and still nothing! my computer is not the problem, because I am still able to transfer pictures from my other camera and it also doesn't work on my laptop. Any suggestions? Sonja
hermanjr
some times dirt gets inside the contacts causing a faulty connection. use a flash light and check if the camera has dirt or dust on its connectors, and if it does get a can of compressed air and clean it. h._p.
From the symptoms you describe, it sounds more like a firmware problem. Try resetting your camera. If the manual doesn't tell you how, look on the manufacturer's support pages. As a general rule, it's probably best to get a card reader and transfer images using that, rather than plugging into the camera. For some reason, firmware problems are more common after switching the camera to transfer mode than at any other time. I've had firmware problems on three cameras and all appeared to be related to 'target mode' or the equivalent.
wolf_weber
For one thing, Sonja, it would help to know which model Pentax this problem occurs with. Next, type and GB size of the card. I certainly can only underline the use of a card reader. I have a brand new, unopenend (sealed) Belkin USB 2.0 8-in-1 Media Reader & Writer to be obtained for $ 10,- plus whichever cost of shipping. Wasn't the correct model for my Sandisk Extreme III card, for which I had to get the Sandisk Image Mate 5 in 1 gizmo.
