How much does KE-7A worth nowadays?

Thanks guys. I am about to sell this set but it was very hard to determine the value. I already have M3 and M6 with some lenses so, I'm not interested in using this set for real life. I was real surprised that it is that rare item.

What is a KE-7A worth nowadays?

The link to the discussion thread above is probably still fairly accurate - these cameras are quite valuable and not likely to depreciate in the future. But they are most valuable in a set with the 50mm Elcan lens (easily worth $7-10,000 or more). If memory serves, there were only 505 of these sets produced.

IMHO, if you have one of these you're crazy to sell it.

Sorry if I was crabby. The site does say to search before asking, I see you did, but it wasn't obvious. Referencing the old thread would make it clear that you're wondering if prices have changed.

To me it was pretty obvious from reading the old thread that these are so thin in the market that it is really hard to establish a reliable price. None have been offered at any of the Westlicht auctions. I might have seen on on eBay, but it was too long ago to search for.

This is an item of enough value that the best way to sell it would be through an auction at a reliable auction sale, like those done by Westlicht or Tamarkin. Yeah, they take a commission from the buyer, which may reduce the sales price. But they also provide an assurance of authenticity, which can increase the sales price.

It would be very easy to under-price it in a private sale.

Hopefully you bought it at Olden Camera for a song long ago!

To answer your question : I bought a mint ++ KE7A in less than one year ago. I paid $33,500 for the body only.

I have lost my shirt on my hobby on Leica collection. At one time my collection is worth more than US$ 1.0 million. I would be lucky if I get get 35% of that today. Such is life. Better off buying a Dodge Charger with shaker hood.... Leica collection can no longer be looked at an investment. All these jokes we had about film vs digital and we say time will tell. Well, time is telling us now.

Buy the camera for love, or for the fond of precision machines, but never for an investment.

Best of luck to you.

PS : A pair of sunglasses worn by Steve McQueen was hammered at $75,000, so go figure.
