Is there something wrong with my camera?

I'm really new to digital photography. So, sorry if this is a stupid question.

When i manual focus theres a line from the center to the bottom of the

viewfinder. I have a nikon d80 I don't know if this is normal or not. It shows

up on autofocus sometimes too. I just recently bought a nikkor 55-200 VR. If its

normal, is there a way to turn it off? Thanks a lot!!

Andy,

I believe the line you are referring to indicates whether you have Normal or Wide Zone selected in the "Center AF area" in you Custom Setting Menu. If you have Wide Zone selected, the line is moved t the left and if you have Normal selected, it will be in the center. Maybe you had Wide selected and recently changed it to Normal.

Hope that helps

Joe

in auto mode it will not show, but in P,M,A,S modes it will. and does help you since its telling you that is the area of focus and metering. There is not way to turn it off but you can get use to it. Read thru your manual it might tell you if you can change the settings for it.
