charles.
Hello, I recently purchased, 2nd hand, a Manfrotto strap that I thought would mate to my bogen 3251 tripod (also bought used). It seems I didnt consider where this strap would attach (hah!). There is a clip on the strap which I assume would attach to a ring or something somewhere near the column of my tripod, but theres no such ring available... But, there are threaded holes (perhaps 1/2 or 5/8 inch wide) on the top of each leg where, I hope, something might screw in that might allow me to attach my strap. Is there anyone out there that knows what part I am missing, or is my tripod too old for this strap (the strap is newer while my tripod may be from the 80's)? Was it not included with my tripod when I bought it, or the strap? Is there a part number or specific name for this part so I can find & purchase it? Thanks in advance. frank_kimble
THE part you are referring to does not come with the tripod, at least it didn't come with my 3021. And the book doesn't mention it for your model either. I simply went to a hardware store and bought an eye bolt to screw into the threaded hole at the top of the legset, If this is too big for the clip on your strap then also get a large keyring while at the hardware store to go between the eyebolt and the strap end. You can also get a nut to fit the eyebolt to use as a jam nut to position the eye for best attachment of the sling.
Matthew Currie
I don't know how the 3251 compares, but later model 3001 and 3221's do not have threaded holes. Instead, where the two cast halves that make up the hub come together, there are bosses that meet to form a horizontal hole to hold a split keyring. The older version has a 3/8 inch threaded hole in the top of the hub. I found a brass screw with a big head and cross drilled a hole in the head to accept the keyring. An eye bolt would fit the thread, but sticks up too far.<div></div>
