mrbob
On the back of some cameras and medium format film backs we've all seen a little metal frame for inserting the end of a film box to let us know what sort of film is loaded in the camera. A salute to the person who knows what those things are called and a guffaw for the cleverest unorthodox name for such film tattlers (my entry). Actually I'm looking for more than nomenclature; I'd like to buy several of them, the self-adhesive variety, to stick on the back of some of my Leica bodies and Hasselblad film backs. If anyone knows of a source, I'd appreciate finding out Bob Wersan a.k.a. Photoperp
rikp
Try Leicagoodies.com , the Slide. Although i'm biased. At the moment the Slide is unavailable due to unavailability of the backs themselves though. But i hope to have them again soon. rgds Rik

johnny massey
It's a Faff - acronym for frame-a-film-flap.
If your quest really is for one of those less specific whatitsname thingies, you will find them everywhere, even growing in the garden.
I'm concerned about your short term memory - do you work in the music business or do you leave a roll in a camera for weeks at a time?
Johnny. h._p.
I used to make my own holders and it really is very simple. All you need is a small sheet of clear plastic card and a sheet of 1/8 inch plastic card in any colour that suits you (black is always good). Take the biggest box end you use and cut out a piece of the 1/8" plastic card that is 1/4 inch wider on three sides than the box top. Cut a piece of clear plastic to match this piece. Cut out the 1/8" card to leave a hole the right size for the box top, open on one side. Attach the clear piece to the 1/8" piece (I used double sided tape) and then attach the 1/8" side to the camera, again with double sided tape. You now have a film memo holder. I made a dozen or so for myself and friends out of two pieces of plastic card stock at a cost of pennies each.

jerry_lehrer1
Bob I have one of those "Slide" things available, but I am enjoined from offering it for sale on this site, That Photoschlockhouse "Porters" has had them available for years. james mitchell dc
You can do this yourself, if you don't use flash, by tearing or cutting a small and legible piece of the film box and wedging it into the flash shoe. A trick that I learned from some old fart on the LF.

jim nichols
There is a simple substitute. Write the info on a short strip of 1-inch masking tape and slap it on the baseplate.
