larry_wilson1
I saw something in the latest issue of Shutterbug, and in the section where they talked about film, they said that Agfa Vista is coming back to the US market, but they didn't give a specific date. User_502260
I saw this too but it has to be a mistake. Maybe someone is bringing in an unknown quantity of already made film. It will be some time before all of the Agfa film is out of date based on what's printed n the boxes.
bill_tuthill
The Agfaphoto.com website has been selling leftover Vista 100/200/400 for quite some time. What exactly do you like about outdated Vista, the orangy reds or the grainy blue sky?
robert himmelright
I'd be a lot happier if agfa rsx came back, it looked amazing when xprosessed. according to several posts on apug.org maco will be copying agfa's recipies for several of their b/w papers which should be nice. larry_wilson1
I've never had those kind of problems with Vista, Bill. I've always been a fan of Agfa's color rendition, with the exception of the old Ultra 50. Besides, I need another filmstock other than Fuji, and I absolutely refuse to shoot Kodak. Their constant reshuffling and renaming of their films with no noticeable improvements have left me cold to them. But to be completely fair, I do intend to do a test of the new stocks to see if they've improved. If it's true that Vista will be available again in the US, then at least I won't have to go hunting at every single Walgreens in the CHicago area to find it. plasma181
I used to shoot the Studio 35 from Walgreens, which of course was Agfa Vista. But long after Agfa went out of business, Walgreens was still up to their eyeballs in Studio 35. Turns out that their house brand is now made by Fuji. I'm not sure if it's Superia or Super HQ which I think is leftovers from any production run.
larry_wilson1
It's probably Super HQ. Fuji is highly unlikely to allow Wangreens to use Superia as a base without making them advertize the fourth color layer, just like Agfa made them include the Eye Vision legend when they switched over to Vista. Still, maybe that's not entirely true, because they are selling a Fuji-based 800-speed film, and as far as I know, there's no Super HQ 800. It's possible Fuji isn't requiring them to advertize the fourth color layer, but it's highly unlikely, but if they were using it, it might explain why you can't buy Fuji film at Walgreens anymore. If you could get what is for all intents and purposes Superia for less that what Fuji wants you to pay, why should anyone buy Superia proper? I might, but I'm kinda anal when it comes to film private-label film. I do remember that I liked the color rendition of the new stuff, and it helped me forget that I wasn't shooting the Agfa-based stuff, which is what I originally wanted. bill_tuthill
Larry, Fuji now has 3-layer versions of Superia 400 and probably 800 also, but there are no datasheets that I can find. Did you try to buy Vista from Agfaphoto.com? I could not figure out how.
larry_wilson1
Bill, I haven't been able to find any proper Vista; I've been using whatever I can find of Walgreen's older Studio35 film. I'm not even sure how to go about trying to order from agfaphoto.com. Right now until the new Vista makes it back over here (if it does arrive), I'm going to be stocking up wherever I can. I hope they dropped the 4th layer because they've found another way to bring similar results, and not because they just want to save money by dumbing down their product.
