mariah_davy
I was looking into the 28-200 for a small t-ball team pictures due to some great advice from some posts here. However, in the mean time i was also told the 28-200 would be too harsh. So im trying to get some feedback here on that, if the 28-200 is too harsh, then what would be the next best thing? Thanks-
Matt Laur
I'm sure I'm not the only person who's wondering what you're refering to. Which camera/system are we talking about? Which lens maker(s)? And... harsh? I'm not sure how you're using that word, in the context of what I presume to be a question about zoom focal length.
mariah_davy
okay, it is a canon lens, my camera body is canon digital rebelxt and im not sure what they were referrring to when they said harsh... maybe you can help me out .... I placed the order through amazon for the Canon EF 28-200mm f/3.5-5.6 USM Standard Zoom Lens for Canon SLR Cameras Then heard about it may be too harsh? So i could cancel my order by today if need be thats why i wanted to post here. I figure you guys could tell me what you think since i am just a beginner I talked to some other guys on a seperate post and i thought the 28-200 sounded great for the team t-ball group and individual. Am i missing something?
Matt Laur
The only (sensible) use of the word "harsh," photographically, is in reference to lighting. And while you may indeed be up against some harsh outdoor lighting when taking youth sports/team pictures, your choice of lens is not the factor there. I think the 28-200 is a reasonable choice if you're going to be shooting some action out on a sunny day. The only reason to go with something that will zoom back to 17mm is if you have to deal with wide group shots while standing rather close to them. You're outside, presumably, so the 28mm end of the lens you ordered should serve you well enough in that regard. Carry on!
