People Photos in the Bahamas?

I'm going to Nassau Paradise Island in two days. I read on some travel

website that Bahamians consider it very rude to photograph people with out

their permission, but you never know what that really means coming from a

travel website. Different people have different opinions on this, so it could

mean just about anything or nothing at all. Should I expect people there to

react the same as people generally do around the US, or is there a cultural

difference that I should be aware of?

Thanks,

Paul

I have been to Paradise Island. I find most people there very friendly and if you ask for a pose or permission to take a picture, most if not all will be more then happy to oblige. Myabe they mean the thousands of US and European Tourists that will be very unhappy if you take a picture of them while in their bikinis at the beach?!?

Regardless, the locals are happy if you take an interest into their culture and more then happy to pose a certain way if you need, whether it be serious or happy. i think the locals know tourist dollars support their economy and most are more then happy to oblige with a tourist. You will find many happy people their because thats the culture. If you ask the local if there are any poor people in the bahamas, they will tell you "no", just less fortunate ones, thats just how they think and act in the bahamas. Have Fun!

Like anywhere else, you'll find that most people in the Bahamas respond well to a polite request.

The Bahamians are a very proud people and enjoy a relatively high standard of living. Unlike on some islands, they will not look to be compensated for having their photo taken. A simple "thank you" while engaging in a bit of conversation goes a long way.
