You Know What Really Chaps My Ass!?

Recommended Posts

You know what really chaps my ass?! Is that all of these nude shots on the

photo critique forum get rated so high. A large portion of them are the same

damn shot over and over again. How original can they be? All the while I'm

seeing some absolutely stunning shots (that aren't nudes) that consistently

get rated 3/3. Is it because 90% of the people on PN are males? Does the

slightest stimulation warrant 7/7's?

I hvae been shooting the figure for over 40 years, and yes I confess to a preference for B&W nudes. But I rate the bad ones (the majority) quite low,or not at all. It is interesting that most of the nudes are not really nudes, they are boudoir shots.

what heterosexual man can resist a pretty, naked woman...let's just be real. but...that said, I agree Josh. I think there is nothing more beauiful than the human form, so I appreciate nudes from an aesthetic perspective, not just sexual - but often the nudes posted here are not unlike the countless, boring shots of pets that people post simply because they love animals...to hell with the fact that this is a photography site, not a pet lovers site. Bruce: you're correct...lots of boudoir shots...not nudes.

The answer has a natural biological explanation. When viewing certain objects (females), the blood flow is reduced to the brain to an obvious unmentionable area. The amount may seem low but it just tips the unbalanced brain to large exaggerations and unrealistic expectations. The female is not immune but the blood rate loss is not as pronounced. Viewing males has an opposite effect rushing blood to the brain causing repulsion (sometimes violent). Females of course have the same effect to a lesser degree.

Conclusion: The effect cannot be avoided and is pointless to fight just like Death and/or Taxes.

Extraordinarily odd? Care to expound? If he had said "disturbed" instead...would you have found it so odd? My next question may very well be ... " Is there a law of physics that accounts for the fact that placing a camera in the hands of some individuals turns them into arrogant tight asses?"

Just as odd, but not nearly as ripe for a joke. I generally find it odd when people are disturbed because other people have different tastes--it seems like after a few decades of encountering that phenomenom, they'd get used to it. I mean, I can't stand Britney Spears and other formulaic pop "music," but I don't get upset because other people do.<P>

I haven't ever observed that to be a fact. Out in the real world, I've found that photographers are almost always helpful and supportive of one another. It's common for pros to provide advice, referrals, and even equipment to others, even their direct competitors. Among amateurs, I've also seem the same kind of advice, support, and assistance. The internet is the only place I've encountered photographers looking for a reason to insult, antagonize, and discourage each other from doing the kind of photography they enjoy doing. Perhaps putting a monitor and keyboard in front of people turns them into arrogant tight asses?

I find it a little bit amusing that MEN rate those T & A's so highly. As the mother of two men and a wife I understand and accept this obsessive facination in the opposite sex. I agree, in principal, with Mike Dixon, "to each his own" up to a point. What disturbs me are all those sadistic bondage photos of women in chains, bound, strung up etc. that are always highly rated.

Mike, Actually I couldn't agree with you more. My point was simplythat I don't think it so odd that someone has a negative reaction to what he sees as inequity in the way ratings are handed out. Obviously, "ya know what chaps my ass?" is the gentleman's way of expressing himself...and I see no harm done. Is it a subject that results in my undies getting in a wad? No. Obviously it doesn't have that effect on you either. But your comment had (at the least) a distintively sarcastic tone to it...that doesn't seem "helpful or supportive". Honestly Mike, with all due respect...the comment came across as being insulting...something you stated that photographers only do when they have a monitor and keyboard in front of them. I can be an ass, but you won't find me being one just for the sake of being an ass. I made my remark to provoke you to think about how your comment might sound to others. I'm not here for verbal jousting Mike. You truly have a skill for that, that I don't have. In fact, if you check other posts you've made I've been just as complimentary of remarks you've made as I was insulting, re: this one. If we still have any misunderstanding on this one, please feel free to e-mail me so that we don't disturb the room. I like your spirit...I like your photography. You obviously have much to offer of a positive nature.
