aldrich
I just obtained an absolutely *pristine* Yashica TL Electro/X with authentic Yashinon 50, 135, 200, and 28mm, several filters, adapters, etc. etc. Everything but the instruction manual. Does anyone know where I can get additional Yashinons online, or an instruction manual? Also, I'm not familiar with Yashicas. Was this a reputable camera back in its day? Thanks! alex macphee
Yashicas have always been under-rated compared with the market leaders, but they were and are reputable cameras, and the TL Electro X has features which are regarded as very desirable extras when found in higher range cameras, such as mirror lock-up (no need to fudge with self-timers), very useful for use on telescopes and microscopes, and depth of field preview. It's a solid, workmanlike camera - I like it enough to have a pair of them. I recently did a thoroughly non-scientific comparison between a Yashinon 50/1.8, Tessar 50/2.8, Takumar 55/2, and Yashica 50/2 ML lens, and there was precious little to choose between them, either in sharpness or colour rendition; the Yashinons are good performers. twoliver
This is definitely an underrated camera. Even the plain-jane 50mm f1.7 Yashicanon-DS lens provides wonderful results. Another great advantage is that it accepts M42 lenses. I've used Pentax Super-Takumar lenses with the Yashica several times, and as mentioned the mirror lockup feature is a bonus.Yashica TL Electro X. aldrich
Yes, I have a Spotmatic F with several lenses...amazing results regardless of lens! Batteries...My local place told me the battery for this camera has been out of production for about 15 years...Radio Shack had plenty of them, a P28XL I think...but my camera dealer said this was the wrong battery and to not use it. I tried it and it seems to work fine. About the same size as a CR2, only 6V instead of 3V. Odd, wouldn't you say?
