Worried that medium format will be forgotten by the time I am a true adult

I am 57, shoot Pentax 67, scan it at 3200 dpi, and the result file is equal to a 55 megapixel camera. When I can get a 55 megapixel camera for $1300, then the Pentax goes out. I carry a Olympus 740 3.2 for backup. I just set it on top of the Pentax and fire away, free. Sometimes I enlarge both of them to 8x10, and the digital wins. The 67 wins everything else. But that doesn't answer your question about the future of film. For that you need a fortune teller. On the other hand, you may never be a true adult. By the way, how many people know a psychic who has ever won the lottery?

Anybody who thinks that there is no possibility of film going away doesn't understand economics. The recent news about Bronica and Ilford show that it can and may well happen. Of all companies, Fuji should understand this market and they've recently decided it's not practical to keep producing MF cameras (though they're hedging their bets and keeping the capability based on reports, they also make the Hassy H1).

I have a Mamiya 7II with a few lenses that I continue to use and enjoy. In fact I recently bought an older Linhof-Cabin projector for which I need to make a slide carrier. DR5 slides look incredible through the thing. That said, I also have a Nikon D100 and doubt I'll ever use 35mm film again. I can get better prints with files from the D100 and I don't project 35mm slides so why bother?

There's a lot of Luddite and, frankly, ignorant arguements in this thread. Film will become a limited and difficult medium in the future. Hopefully smaller companies will perpetuate it. I'll still use my M7 as long as I can but I have no illusions about this.

I'm 18 and just purchased my first Medium format SLR, i have a holga that i've been shooting with for about a year and i absolutely love it. Forget digital. I have a canon digital rebal xt and a nikon n6006 and after spending over 2500 in lenses and bodies, i had more fun with a 30$ piece of medium format plastic.
