nicolerenee
This isnt a question, I just wanted to say how much I appreciate being able to come to a site like this and have so many talented people give critiques and constructive critisims. Not only are the people honest but thoughtfull and (for the most part)careful not to be cruel with their opinions. How nice that someone who has the talent would choose to build you up rather than tear you down. Thank you to everyone who makes it possible for a beginner to get great advice and suggestions on how to make their photographs better, and for all the inspiration your talent provides! geoff_foale
It is certainly a lot more 'gentlemanly' now. In the past people were torn apart for splitting an infinitive never mind their photographs. It's possible that there are more members now who remember how they had to struggle to learn so are willing to pass on advice. Anyhow, long may it continue and welcome Nicole. Geoff. ps I still use a dictionary while typing, just in case . . .
atlatling
Along these lines, why doesn't the elf society invent a spell checker as a part of their forums, so that us less educated didn't have to keep going to the bookcase to check on spellin'. It would do wonders for me. Any elves out there listening. Geoff is right about the change in temperment and improvement of those now replying with hellpful critiques. Lots of good folk out there to help. I commend them. My thanks go to the ever-watchful elves themselves as well. God love 'em.
bruce_margolis
Bill, that's a great idea but not just for 'less educated' people. Many who post here use English as a second (or third) language. This has to be real difficult for them. Fortunately most people are very tolerant and don't nitpick the poor spelling and grammar. Hopefully it will always be about the topic, not whether someone committed an idiom error.
geoffs1
I haven't been posting long enough to really notice any trends in the site, but I have been impressed with the general civility and helpfulness and even tolerance for even pretty obviously common/repeat questions. There are some notable exceptions, but they're pretty easy to filter out and don't set the tone (most of the time). "Philosophy of Photography" _can_ get a bit heated at times... ;-) On the spelling issue, I'm a native English speaker, but my spelling is terrible! Firefox 2 contains a built-in spell checker, and I believe there's a plug-in for IE7. I almost can't post without them. Cheers, Geoff S.
nicolerenee
Im glad the whole picking on spelling thing isnt a big thing now, at least that I've seen. I would be in quite a bit of trouble if it were!
stephen_w.
I downloaded a spell checker off the internet. It works in the background and is unnamed. It underlines in red misspelled words. I don't remember where I got it. http://www.google.com/search?q=spellcheck&hl=en&sourceid=gd&rls=GGLD,GGLD:2007-14,GGLD:en
studor13
I don't know how it happened but on my other computer I have a Google's tool bar and in it there is a spell checker which has been great. Nicole, generally speaking when anyone asks a sensible question, even if they have been done to death people don't mind repeating themselves. I often read them and always seem to learn something new each time.
nicolerenee
I've been surprised, myself, at the eloquence of some of these PN'ers!
alibek
Wow! Yes, I wanted to say just exacty what you did, Nicole. I'm an aspiring ameteur and a High School student yet, but this site helps a lot! There're many people willing to help you with an advice, having great experience behind them - and it's cool. Even those who are a bit harsh, do contribute many useful things to the Photo.net society - and ultimately 4 everyone.
