chetn
I have just had a request from the bride for some stills from my photos of thewedding for the videographers presentation. I wouldnt mind giving them but I waswondering if this is common or has happened to others. I must say the man was less than helpful on the day, being no more than 3 feetfrom the couple at all times and building a fence of tripods (which he didnt usefor the camera) to keep any one away. I have managed to crop him out in mostshots though. I even had to ask him to stand out of the way for the formals. Ishe just being too pushy? afs760bf
Yes, and he wants to use your photos in his video. Maybe the video has a few weak spots. Cheers
BrettPrucha
Barry, the op says the request is from the bride, not the videographer. Just do a search in the forums and you will see it's not that uncommon. I would find it rude to not privide the photos for the video on the grounds that you didn't like the videographer. It's for the bride at her request. If you're ok with that then their really is no reason not to provide some photos to put in the video.
ni_gentry
I would want to see the guy's work first to determine if it's the quality of product that I would want my images associated with. I'd also require that I get to proof the final product before he releases it to the couple. <p>Of course I'd also require a written agreement that limits use to just this couple's video, that proper credit is given to me, and that he can't use the images to market himself, etc... If he's a professional, does good work, and nice to deal with, then it should all be fine.
scott_brooks1
Certainly not unusual at all. However, if you feel uncomfortable you could always let the bride know that you can provide a slide show on DVD as well. (Assuming that you do.)
Jerry_
...are you in business or a charity? Telephone the video guy and see if he will 'give' you several copies of the finished video? My guess is he will give you a negative reply. The bride, nice to play the middle-person, is asking for something over and beyond weddidng photography. errolyoung
I always offer to give them 6 - 10 shots as long as I get credit on the video. Also they are in the wedding buz so good will can pay off. Errol

William Michael
I would expect a more professional approach would have been a request from the other business concerned. A telephone call would have sufficed. We have had such requests, and in each instance have made suitable arrangements, with a full credit and remuneration or quid pro quo; depending upon the circumstances and what was requested. IMO, this appears a business request from a prospective client via a third party who is at present a client of yours, whom, I expect you wish to please. If you wish to follow this up, you should: 1. Speak directly with the Video-grapher and establish what is required and for what purpose. Direct talk with the new prospect is appropriate: everything else is irrelevant, including your interpretation of his behaviour at the Wedding. 2. As the request came via the third party, it is also appropriate that you tell the Bride you will be contacting the Video-grapher directly, as this also is correct business and professional behaviour. iskandar_azaman___kuala_lu
Right now i work with a videographer whom i recommend to anyone who is asking for a videographer. So when i actually shoot with him i don't really mind giving my shots. Sometimes for the reception slideshow he usually asks for pictures from the earlier ceremony. Usually just closeups of the ring or stuff like that which would be difficult to take with video. I never have a problem about giving some pictures. He credits the photographer in the slideshow too, so that's kind of good marketing for me since close to 1000 people are usually there at the reception. khaisy
It is not uncommon, if the bride asked then you should give them to her regardless if how you feel about the guy you might want to ask to include your name and phone # in teh credit it is free ad. justscattin
At least you've been asked. I shot a wedding 2 summers ago and was followed around by the video guy. Honestly he did nothing for himself...videoed all my shots, ect, which, yes I expected BUT I did not make a move in which I did not back into him, elbow him, or trip over him...frustrating, but I got over it and did my job... THEN....a year later at a bridal show I went to so I could prep for my own wedding...he was there, using the video from the wedding I had shot...with my images on the video (the bride and groom gave them to him)...which wouldn't have been that big a deal, except I listened to him tell a bride that HE TOOK THE PICTURES! I confronted him on the spot...apprently, I didn't look the way I did the day of the photography. He had the balls to tel lme to my face that he personally knew the photographer at the wedding and she okayed it. uuummm....NOT! Needless to say, I contacted my lawyer who contacted him and everything got straightened out. By all means provide the images WITH A STIPULATION that YOU are given credit for the images!
