Hi all.

i havt to produce 6 images on the theme of identity, but i seem to have a sudden mental block.

My usually overactive imagination has stopped working and my brain has turned to mush!

any links to some inspirational work linked to this theme or comments greatfully received.

You may need to furnish a bit more info, does identity mean being able to identify someone by their clothes such as police, fireman and chef, or does it mean that you have to take photos of things that give clues to your personal identity, like photos of tools if you like working on things!

Make a 2"x3" print. Put on your forehead. Make straight on picture.

Put your palm on a flatbed scanner. Scan it in.

Take your typical clothes outfit - everything. Drape it on a chair in approximate wearing position. Photograph it in a plain setting.

Okay, that's three. I have lots more.

I'll dribble in more ideas.

For a contradictory view of personal identity: Photograph yourself looking into a mirror from 3/4 behind-view. What's in the picture is exactly what you cannot see in real life. The invisible part of yourself. (See, the mirror image is reversed, and of course you cannot see the back of your own head.)

I want to be your friend and not be nasty. But, Russell, do you realize that future employers of you are googling for anything you might have said in a public forum. I don't think it is a good idea to declare your brain to have turned to mush, and to be as sloppy with spelling as you are. I am sure you know how to spell, but may think in an informal forum that's not important. It is! (Re-read second sentence above)

Who or what is the first thing you see when you wake up?

What part of your body do you notice mostand least favorably most of the time?

What part of your body is the msot fascinating or mysterious to you?

Without doing a special clean up, What does your bedroom look like? Your kitchen ? your

car? your favorite and least favorite class room?

When you step outside what do you notice most of all?

What are you eating today ("you are what you eat")?

Do a screen grab of your favorite website.

Photograph your favorite book, open to your favorite passage.

What's the last thing you'll see before you turn off the lights and go to sleep?

Photograph your favorite material possesion.

Try to be as un- self consciously arty about your lighting and compositions: jsut

photograph these things as directly as you see them?

Well thanks for that. Im actually dyslexic and cant spell for toffee. And come to think of it

neither can most the professional photographers i have worked for. As for "future employers

of you are googling for anything you might have said in a public forum" i think they are not

stupid enough to think that just because a photographer has 'writers block' on a college

assignment they are not worth employing.

Russell do you do any self portraits of yourself? I have found that I have found my identity through doing them. Just a thought. There are so many emotions one can present through them and I really do like finding other people that do self portraits and REALLY find it interesting how kids today love to take pictures of themselves with digital cameras.

I also like phat someone said about photographing what you like doing. Good luck ~ micki

Maybe i should be eating toffee with the dictionary upside down?

Well, duh... a HUGE part of your identity stems from being a twin. So, the easiest, almost cliched theme would be to take pictures of a pair of things:

- A pair of socks - can be identical pair - brand new or fresh from the laundry, or one sock can be new, the other torn.

- An apple and orange -- an unmatched pair.

These and any others would generate interesting talking points -- especially coming from the perspective of a twin.
