vancouverphotographer
There goes this obscession with ratings again guys, I guess having a mathbackground, numbers are embedded into me. Anyway, my passion has always beenconcert photography - recently I got some higher numbers - but overall, it seemsthis category is a tough nut to crack. Thanks. Norma Desmond
Landscapes and Flowers seem to get the most attention and highest ratings. I'm not sure what that will mean to you, though. If you are drawn to concert photos (which is great and, I think, quite interesting with lots of possibilities), are you going to start shooting flower to get more attention? I hope not! IMHO, keep doing stuff like Sally Yeh @ the Orpheum and be satisfied with the greatness of a moment you've captured and the very compelling image you've achieved. We didn't need dialogue. We had faces!
Charles_Webster
Nudes get the highest number of ratings and comments. I don't know what's lowest, but a couple of my landscapes have gotten few views, no ratings and no comments. Don't worry about numbers, shoot for yourself. If you get one good constructive comment, rejoice. Otherwise stop worrying about numbers and go shoot some pictures. That's what photography is all about, not ratings, views, or critiques. If you really feel you need help with your pictures, find another photographer, maybe here on PN, and approach them about mentoring you. <Chas>

vancouverphotographer
Hey guys ... thanks for the responses. I shoot everything but I just wanted to throw this up for discussion. Possibly there's less heavy concert shooters here than others.
stephen_w.
You uploaded photos, so it must please you. Why do you care about ratings? Some here on PN shotgun ratings in order to have another notch on their belt. You really should care about sincere and constructive critiques. pjmeade
I'm finding it hard work to get ratings at all
vancouverphotographer
Stephen, I guess I like quantifying things - too much math in my background. I agree about the constructive critiques. Fred, Charles, yes I have noticed landscapes, flowers and nudes get a lot of attention. Tim, I noticed pets in general do not get a lot of high ratings. Peter, yep, I think I average about 10 ratings per image.
afs760bf
If you average about ten ratings per pic, you're doing pretty well. I think "street" probably is one of the lowest rated categories, because the thumbnails don't jump off the page.
vancouverphotographer
Thanks Barry. I think you got a good point on the street stuff - most of the time I guess it is about that quick first initial impression just because of the sheer volume of images. stormchaser
Hardest? Portraits, because they're so ordinary. They have to be exceptional. Easiest? Nudes. The top photos are always mostly nudes, especially for the All time period. They don't even have to be really good, just of someone hot.
vancouverphotographer
Kieran, for portraits I found that you have to be good in photoshop as well.
Norma Desmond
I don't find that portraits need to be exceptional in terms of a photoshop touch as much as they require a very hard-to-capture compelling expression and connection with the viewer. Achieving human intimacy is difficult when you're eyes are behind a little machine like a camera. We didn't need dialogue. We had faces!
