kristina_kendall
I took a few pictures the other night of my family on my D200. I used a 1gb Lexar Compact flash card. I took the card out of my D70 that I had taken a few pictures on the day before. When I put the Card in my Card reader on my computer nothing pops up like it normally does. Did I do something wrong by switching the cards between cameras without formatting. The images are still there, (about 25 of them) I would just like to be able to look at my images on computer. Never had a problem before doing this. The card is only a few months old as well. Any assistance is greatly appreciated.
don_cooper
Have you tried looking at the card with Windows Explorer?

alan_olander1664878205
Go to My Computer. Your card reader should be listed as a drive. Double click on it and open the folders.
kristina_kendall
Hi thank you I have tried this and it says need to format, which will erase all the images. I have also tried hooking up my usb cable from camera to computer with no such luck...argh!

Anyhow, even though FAT16 and FAT32 may seem camera independent and interchangeable file formats, it is better to format a card in the camera before use, if it comes from a different camera. This was reported as problem before, perhaps in January. If files are visible in the camera LCD, then recovery software should be able recover your photos. Search photo.net for the same problem and applied solution.

kris_anderson1
I just had the same problem after a client photo shoot, and thought I had lost 96 images. I could still see the images on the LCD of my Nikon D70, but when I tried to access the camera using the USB cable, got a message saying the card needed to be formatted. I got the same result when I tried to put the card in my card reader. The SanDisk- recommended software did not work for me, but the $30 software at http://www.compact-flash-data-recovery.com/ did. I got everything back but two photos.
