What is a Goerz anastigmat series II F6.8 for 8x10?

I just received a lens inscribed "Seroco Anastigmat U.S.P. Series II 8x10 F6.8

by C.P. Goerz for Sears Roebuck & Co. No.200264." Focal length tested at

300mm. I know that this lens was produced by Goerz for Sear's Seroco line of

8x10 cameras, but I am wondering if it is a Dagor? or other? as it is labelled

series II not series III. I assume it is produced by Goerz American Optical,

but I am not sure as the only information on the lens is the above

inscription. It should date to 1905-1908. It is mounted in a Volute shutter.

If anyone has any information on this lens I would appreciate it. Thank you.-

David

Perhaps not a Dagor. Count reflections, the Dagor has two strong reflections and two weak (can be hard to see) from each cell.

The VM mentions a Ser. II, but it is f/5.5 or f/5.6. Not the same design as the Dagor, 5 elements in each cell, not 3 like the Dagor.

Thank you for your answers. I found a description of this lens in a 1909 sears catalogue and it is described as being fully corrected for astigmatism. Is it possible to have a lens by Goerz that is an anastigmat and not a double anastigmat? It appears from the links that the patent for this Series II lens is later than that of the Series III Dagor. Thanks-David

Less coverage and more flare than a Dagor, if it is in fact a Syntor.

I'll tell you again, count reflections. A Syntor is a dialyte type, has 4 bright and no dim reflections from each side of the diaphragm. Series II is not consistent with Syntor.

When the camera companies put their name on lenses, series no's become meaningless. A Conley series V anastigmat is equiv. and mfr. by Wollensak and is their series I. My guess would have been cheap dialyte. Been bit by that bug before. (oh, it's 6.8 and made by goerz, it must be a dagor.) Go make some pictures with it.
