don_e
I use a Velbon Ultra LUX for backpacking. It weighs 3lbs and is rated to hold 6lbs. Folds down to 15". You can slip it under the backpack's compression straps. This was the one tripod at a reasonable price (140$) that had all the features I wanted, including height: range from 8" (for macro) to 62", independent leg spread (for setting down among rocks, talis slopes). 3 bubble levels. One feature was the 62" height. I'm 6'2". You will have more choices, since you don't need that.
mike_earussi1
The Velbon is my first choice as well and the one I use for backpacking. There isn't a smaller lighter tripod on the market. But it is also not as sturdy as others and I am unfamiliar with your camera setup. A good alternative is the Bogen 3001. It's more sturdy and still cheap at $122 at B & H, but it is also heavier and not near as compact. B & H sells both so I would suggest you look at each and decide. carbon_dragon
I use a Gitzo 1228. It's expensive (not sure if the model number has changed) but light and sturdy. I love it.
randall ellis
I agree with Stephen's suggestion - your answer is waiting for you in the past threads. Just keep in mind that every person will have a strong bias toward the gear they are using and that the most useful suggestions will be the ones that included details about *why* they like what they are recommending. - Randy

alex_lofquist
I agree with David in that the Gitzo 1228 is a great lightweight but rigid tripod and worth every cent that it costs.
dbcooper
Gitzo CF - it's expensive, but it's quite light, and will last.
