patflynn
I just drove all over town in my Edsall, made a dozen calls on my rotary phone, and even mailed a few inquiries using my carrier pigeon. But I swear to God I can't figureout what "PMA" stands for. Can anyone just serve as an angel of mercy and clue me in, PLEASE?!? Obviously it is some tradeshow that is probably annual where Canon debuts its latest and greatest advances. But all I'm getting off Google is a bunch of PN hits and what I obviously need is some terse yet sage wisdom from someone, seemingly anyone other than me, who reads this forum. Is anyone going to this PMA thingy? Can the public attend it and should they want to? Thanks for taking pity on the rube ;-)

ken dennis
Patrick! Don't feel like the lone ranger here, I am in the same boat! There's a lot of things that I could imagine that PMA would or could stand for, some are good, most are bad, but I would guarantee that every one of them was wrong! :O) Ken. felix_ing
I consider PMA as the holi-day (holy day) for all Canon (and other camera manufactures') fans ha, I didn't know what it stands for as well!) Oh I can't wait to see what'll be released...um...maybe EOS "3D"?! or EOS 1Ds camera phone (wouldn't that be awesome? to compete with iphone?!) PMA could stand for...Photo Maniacs' Association?Psychotic Moronic Announcements?the list goes on...
matt_mccarthy3
PMA is not open to the general public. It's not even open to photographers. It's meant for people involved in the marketing of photographic materials, whether it be cameras, computer peripherals and so on. There is a branch that is open for photographic educators, but unless you're "in da bidness" - you can't get in. That really sucks.... The only equivalent that a photographer can get in to that I know of in the USA is PhotoPlus Expo in NYC. The BIG one however, is in Cologne, Germany, and that's called Photokina. I'd love to get to that one someday.
Brian
Funny thing about those rotary phones, Patrick. I think my push-button phone has got a dial inside, because my home PC is on a dial-up connection, when I lift the handset I get the dial tone, etc., etc. Modern technology is just a fake. William Kahn
Have no fear, Patrick. All the dusty, archaic equipment in the world doesn't tag you as a moron. Now, a lime-green, double-knit polyester liesure suit - that would do it.......

ken_jeanette1
Looking at the last post, it also struck me that all the replies are from men. Could it be our wives and significant others cause us to know we have to look at this one?

joshuasargent
As a professional trade association, PMA? helps the worldwide photo imaging community achieve business success and adapt to new technologies. PMA continues its 82-year legacy of connecting photo imaging businesses to a network of knowledge and support. PMA represents 20,000 members, in 100-plus countries, who actively contribute to the expanding $87 billion imaging industry[citation needed] . As photo imaging continues to evolve, this association has grown to represent the diversity in imaging: photo retailers and processors, manufacturers, commercial imaging labs, sports and event photography, custom picture frame shops, and scrapbook retailers. PMA is committed to helping these segments increase their profitability and expand their consumer, commercial and industrial markets. Through the dedication of its membership, the guidance of its Board of Directors, and willingness of its staff, PMA gives the industry the ability to see, understand, and act on new opportunities. This purpose directs the development of PMA?s educational programs, business services, marketing research, industry publications, and trade shows. As a non-profit organization, any success enjoyed by PMA in its endeavors directly benefits the photo imaging industry and provides continual services and activities for its members. Association" in 1926 and changed again to the "Photo Marketing Association International" in 1974. In 2006, Photo Marketing Association International became PMA - The Worldwide Community of Imaging Associations. Membership It currently has over 20,000 members in 100-plus countries, with membership offices in the USA, Australia, Brazil, Canada, Germany, Italy, Mexico, New Zealand, Russia, and the United Kingdom. Members must pass an entrance exam demonstrating expertise in their field to enter either society. Each year, the PMA hosts the PMA International Convention and Trade Show, combining on-going professional development with the world's largest[verification needed] annual photo imaging trade show
