vivek iyer
Harvey, The Distagon lens diagrams do not show anything and also, Zeiss is very poor at disclosing (or trumpeting)the use of aspherics, LD, etc type glass. Zeiss site has the data on the 25 ZF lens and that looks super impressive.
mark_welsh1
The ZF25 is a new design, but it appears not to have a floating element: or if it does there's something very wrong with mine! I've just completed detailed tests of this lens on a full frame Canon camera. If you exempt the far corners (as you Nikon guys do!), its performance is way beyond anything else you can use at this focal length:
Zeiss ZF 25mm f2.8 v Canon 24mm f1.4 L
joshua daniels
I really appreciate your posting these, but I must agree with some of the other posters: the sample shot is problematic. There is a time honored tradition of shooting brick walls to test lenses, and failing a more appropriately chosen and controlled technique, I would say reshoot these! I think the results will be interesting, but these shots don't allow us to draw any conclusions.
melvin_bramley
I still have my Nikon film gear. After these shots Nikkor or Zeiss I will stay with my digital Olympus E1 & lenses.I hate to be rude; but it would seem that deep pockets & inexperience go together too often. jorge_diaz
Here's some feedback for QC purposes. My monitor(lcd on a compaq presario v4025)shows the first set of jpegs foggy, like there was some light dust storm passing from the Sahara.I came here on my way to find about the Ultron 40/2 nikon mt.I remember my Contax G planar 45 as a mind blowing performer. While the nikon 50mm/1.8 is sweet enough in design it seems that QC maybe getting crapshoot. It seems that the Zeiss lenses are just put together better (centering etc.)hence a steeper price. Is it possible to hit Nikon jackpot and find a Zeiss buster in the lower prices?Maybe. albert_vondeling1
I have a question, which has not to do with this comparision between lenses, but i suppose i can get the answer from the people contributing to this discussion: are zeiss zf lenses compatible to Fuji S3 pro (and the coming soon S5) body? I thought, as i read on zeiss site, you can only use them in manual mode, so exposure/time automation doesn't work in the combo s3 and zf lenses. And anyone knows how this will be with the s5 body? Thanks, Albert Vondeling, Holland.
ShunCheung
The Fuji S2 and S3 DSLRs are based on the F80/N80, which cannot meter with lenses that have no built-in CPU, such as all ZF lenses. The S5 is based on the D200, which can meter with those lenses.
