andrew_c2
Hi folks, Just got an M42-K adapter for my Ist D. When I put my 50/1.4 SMC-Tak on it, itmeters fine in manual but the camera will only expose when the centre focusingspot has something in focus... e.g., after focusing on a person's eye, I cannotrecompose the shot anymore unless I happen to hit upon a point that is the samedistance as the person's eye. This is really annoying. I had a DRebel previously, and am finding that it was easier to use M42 lenseson that that on my Pentax because of this problem! Any solutions? Thanks!Andre
martin_green2
If it is anything like my DS then you need to turn autofocus off on the front of the camera body else it won't capture unless its autofocus system has decided the image is focused. On the DS it is a smallswitch down near the lens mount with a white MF and a green AF.
josphy
Change the focusing mode from AF-S to AF-C. That will allow the shutter to release even if there is nothing in focus.
andrew_c2
Ahh! Ok. Just got this camera from KEH a week ago; still trying to figure stuff out. Thanks! Andre
jerry thirsty
What version of the firmware does it have (hold down the Menu button while turning it on)? The reason I ask is because mine is 2.00, and I don't have the problem you describe regardless of whether the AF switch is set to AF or MF, or whether the AF is set to AF-S or AF-C in the menu, or for that matter whether Using Aperture Ring is set to Prohibited or Permitted. In fact, I wasn't able to find any combination of settings where it wouldn't let me take a picture even with the image completely out of focus. I could focus on something 2 meters away, get the focus confirmation light, and then shift to something 10 inches away and still take the shot. Or another question, what shooting mode do you have the top left dial in? If you are using one of the preset modes maybe that could cause a problem? hugh_crawford1
I'm curious about this as well. The Canon 1Ds has a mode like this , . Of course you need to have an autofocus lens or an adapter that fools the camera's computer into thinking that you are using an autofocus lens. I'm thinking of buying a K10D and trap focus with old lenses would add to the reasons to buy.
andrew_c2
Hi again folks, Thanks for the quick responses! I changed the AF setting on the camera to AF-C and M and the M42 lenses work just fine. Now, to get another M42-K adapter-- one that focuses to infinity!
