anton_lukoszevieze
Anyone know of an older lens that is super wide (don't mind distortion) on a 5x7 camera? Can't quite afford 2000 dollars for a Schneider 72mm f/5.6 Super-Angulon XL..... Protar V? Just hunting around. Thanks
pico
What is superwide to you? FWIW, a most surprisingly good lens for 5x7 is the 121mm or 120mm Super-Angulon. It covers nicely and is definitely affordable considering the field.
ole_tjugen
90mm f:8 Super Angulon just cover, and is one of my most used lenses on 5x7". Protar V's tend to cost more that this... A 120 or 121mm Super- or "plain" Angulon cover fine, but aren't really "superwide". I use that too...
anton_lukoszevieze
Superwide as in Bill Brandt beach photos, 110ish degree field of view, fisheye.
ole_tjugen
A 90mm would give just about the angle of view you see in Bill Brandt's pictures. No, it's not a fisheye.

emile_de_leon9
Try one of the WA F 18 Protars. You would be surprised how good they are. My 210mm covers 12x20. They have huge coverage stopped down. Emile/www.deleon-ulf.com.
sheldonnalos
KEH.com has a 72mm SA XL for $1269. Not sure if that gets it down into your budget.
big toys are better
The Nikon 75mm f/4.5 has a 200mm image circle at f/16, so probably close to the necessary coverage of 5x7 when down to f/22 or maybe at 32. Racking out the bellows a bit (focus closer) to get better coverage might get you there at f/16 or 22. The Nikon goes for $900 U.S. for the import version ay B&H Photo in NY City USA. Sounds to be a great deal for what you get, a really good deal. Now you've got me thinking! There is a used one on eBay but not such a great deal in my opinion: http://cgi.ebay.com/Nikkor-Nikon-SW-75mm-75-mm-f-4-5-4-5-LF-wide_W0QQitemZ320062174140QQihZ011QQcategoryZ30076QQssPageNameZWDVWQQrdZ1QQcmdZViewItem
allen_whittier
I use a 90mm Super Angulon for my widest shots. I also have a nice light weight 121mm Dagor that's my favorite in the field.
ole_tjugen
If I need really, really wide I move up in size to 24x30cm (9.5x12") and use a 150mm Weitwinkel Aplanat... :) A 90mm f:8 Super Angulon is still the best compromise between price, coverage, light fall-off and availability for 5x7".
