Tony Rowlett
I'm sorry, but I don't want anything other than Leica or Leica-related items to be posted here for sale (or WTB/WTT/FF). I don't want to unnecessarily restrict people's use of this forum, but with the recent topic enhancement, the floodgates seemed to have opened and now I'm spending a lot more time processing FS posts for other rangefinder systems. Keep in mind that I no longer like having FS/WTB posts made to the forum simply because of the workload. I tend to think of any reason I can to simply delete the posts rather than expire them (expiring threads takes a handful of key stroks and several clicks per post; deleting takes only two clicks, I think). With that said, please continue to use the forum to trade or sell Leica or Leica-related items. If you properly categorize them, then I will be glad to process them and allow them to stay for 30 days. What is a Leica-related item? For the most part, anything made by Leica, or anything made to be specifically attached to a Leica, most likely Leica Thread Mount (some call it Leica Screw Mount). Lenses that will fit a Leica. Adapters for Leica products, etc. A Canon flash gun, even though it will fit on a Leica is not a Leica-related item. USE YOUR OWN JUDGMENT JUST LIKE YOU HAVE IN THE PAST, and please don't solicit opinions from me on whether or not an item fits. You will know, and if it doesn't, i.e. I "disagree," I will simply delete the post. The time it will take me to engage in discussion regarding the fit of an item FS/WTB/WTT here would likely be greater than me just allowing whatever to be posted. Did I explain that OK? This is the Leica and Rangefinder forum. If it's a rangefinder of any shape or size or brand, then by all means discuss away. But if it's for sale or you want to buy one, then it's still "Leica Only." I will much appreciate your cooperation and understanding on this. Thank you. p.s. Certain items are now listed FS/WTB that are not Leica-related, but I will allow these to stay due to the obvious ambiguity between the time of our topic update and now. But henceforth I'm deleting... Backups? We don’t need no stinking ba #.’ _ , J
mingus1
How about restricting this to all posts, and especially images in the W/NW section. I enjoy images, but when I want to see 5D images I will look at them in the appropriate forum.
forum_shopper
I suggest you revise item 12 in the "about this forum" section to reflect the changes in policy. They should be memorialized somewhere more permanent because people in the future are unlikely to arrive at them intuitively. Seems unfortunate that the number of keystrokes would determine moderation decisions. I hope you were exaggerating.
roger_michel
hi tony -- things were so much simpler back in the good old days! i hope you are well. thank you so much for sticking with this forum for so long. i hope everyone understands your amazing contribution here, and does whatever they can to make your life easier. take care, roger
Tony Rowlett
1) Yes, that would be good, except for one question: how? I'm afraid that has to remain on the honor system. I and the other moderators here are volunteers with days jobs and lives and, at this point, forum admin software that is in need of upgrading. All these things hinder the higher degree of scrutiny needed for what you are suggesting. But I do agree with you.
2) I'll update the guidelines today. And no, I was not exaggerating. photo.net has a classifieds section, but people like to use this forum for Leica stuff. Because I want to do my part for those who want to sell/trade Leica things, then I have no immediate intention of messing with tradition. That I don't want to spend even more time processing such posts due to our forum topic update, then no, nothing non-Leica-related for sale here. If the software were upgraded a bit, then I would reconsider. I'm sorry, I don't want this to come accross as being heavy-handed. Backups? Tony Rowlett
Roger snuck in his post before I got mine in, but mine above refers to the previous two posters. Thank you, Roger! Backups? We don’t need no stinking ba #.’ _ , J
michael s.
But Tony, I can still post a WTT for my '91 Saab convertible .... if I want a 35/2 Summicron asph in exchange, right ? :-)
Tony Rowlett
Would you take a pre-ASPH ? Backups? We don’t need no stinking ba #.’ _ , J
michael s.
Probably would. Is it "clean" ? [Translation: cleaner than my '91 Saab ? Sure hope nobody checks my car for fungus.] There's also the minor issue of transport: I'm in the D.C. metro area, and you're in Alaska. The lens could be sent via USPS inexpensively. The Saab I'm not so sure .... And have you considered how short the "convertible season" is in Alaska ?
Jerry_
"And have you considered how short the "convertible season" is in Alaska ?" If you are in Fairbanks for the winter, it may not make much difference: you need to have the engine warm enough to make the inside heater work __ the downside is your automobile engine never warms up at minus 22 F. ._._z
Rule #12 for this forum says rangefinder equipment sales may be discussed, specifically referring (but not limiting to) to Canon rangefinders. Have the rules officially changed?
Tony Rowlett
I have updated the forum policy and made the appropriate change in the language. Sorry about that. Backups? We don’t need no stinking ba #.’ _ , J
nels
Tony, Thanks for allowing me an egregious violation of the "honor system". I was getting ready to load up the next in my series last night, but after reading your post above, I decided to sleep on it. FWIW, the purists deserve to know that I took the trouble of running my Canon pics through a special detox filter before posting them here. It's been fun. ._._z
So is the 'And Rangefinders' being taken off the forum name too?
Tony Rowlett
*whew* I was getting worried there; I thought I'd never see any quibbling on this thread! Thanks, Z! ._._z
Good to see you're as open to rangefinders as Phil is. A shame it's apparently too much to witness a non-Leica rangefinder sale post in the rangefinder forum, tho....
bobatkins
The simplest solution would be to ban ALL for sale and wanted posts here and create a "Leica" category in the classifieds. This forum is an anomaly in that respect and now it's for all rangefinders, just allowing Leica FS/WTB posts is even more of an anomaly. Those wanting FS/WTB posts are lucky that it's Tony who is defining the policy here...don't push your luck :-)
Tony Rowlett
Having a Leica category in the classifieds section would be ideal, I think, because it would mostly preserve the sense of "trading community" for Leica people; it would make this forum conform better to the design of photo.net; and it would relieve a lot of moderator workload. It would take programming, I know. A link to that section from the forum main page would be good because it would have the effect of being more "connected" to the Leica/RF forum. I wonder what people would think about that? Backups? We don’t need no stinking ba #.’ _ , J
