Masters of Wedding Photography

The DVD Masters of wedding photography has been mentioned here several times.

I decided to try to find it used on Ebay. I have been watching for about 2

months now, and every one that comes for sale is from Europe. I kept waiting

for one for sale in the US. Well, finally I just bought one. I figured it

was still cheep enough, even with paying for overseas shipping. The seller

listed that he would ship to the us.

I was so happy that I got a good deal, that I wanted to see what a new one

cost if I ordered it. Well, when I went to the website, I noticed that you

could buy a US playable copy or a Europe playable copy. Does this mean that I

wont be able to play the one I bought from Europe in my US DVD player? :( !

If the regional coding isn't for the U.S. it will not play. You could purchase a cheap program for your PC which would allow you to play the DVD on your PC regardless of the regional coding. Sorry I don't know the name only that the software exists. It won't be terribly expensive. If you spent a large amount on the DVD it might be worth it.

There are two issues here, region coding and TV system. Region coding can be overcome simply enough, in fact it was introduced mainly to prevent Europeans getting hold of US DVDs before Hollywood had released them in Europe. The main problem you will have is the TV system one - US is NTSC and most of Europe is PAL, one reason is because you have 60Hz AC whilst we have 50Hz.

All is not lost as many DVD players and TVs will still work (check if the TV will accept a PAL signal). Since computer monitors are neither NTSC or PAL the correct setting can be chosen in software.

More info than you'll ever need here: http://en.wikipedia.org/wiki/Broadcast_television_system

Note that with DVD's, the issue with NTSC vs PAL is mostly gone. Most players can handle the difference.

As for regional settings, small market DVD's usually don't bother with regional settings, only major market movies that have scheduled release dates have these concerns.

The region code on dvd players can only be changed a finite number of times (around 5-6), after which point it will be locked at the final region setting and cannot be changed. This does not take into accounts software that can be use to defeat the region code settings.
