andyjonesphotography
Last week I used a D200 to shoot a figure skating competition. The noise was slightly better than my usual D70S, but still not great. Is the D2X better than the D200 with regard to noise produced? Or would I be better off to buy Canon? Thanks in advance Andy
tommyinca
IMHO, Yes, if it is a Canon 5D with a 70-200/2.8 IS. Extra yes, if used with an EF200/1.8.
j.kivekas
The number one choice would be Canon EOS 1D MkII (N) - no question. The second choice would be the fast Nikon D2H or D2Xs. It is not just the fps but also the speed and the reliability of the focus system.<p> The 1D (without s) and D2H are "sports" or "reportage" -bodies in which speed and reliability has been the primary design criteria. The 1Ds and D2Xs (the s-versions) can be considered as studio-versions. Emphasis on max pixel count and in Canon's case also full frame.
Jerry_
Any chance you can 'rent' a Nikon D50? The "noise" at ISO 1600 is not a problem with night football under the lights, no flash.

andyjonesphotography
Thanks guys, very helpful. I think I'm heading towards Canon. The D2Hs 4mp is a bit restrictive for what I need. I might have to sell my wifes car to buy a 1D MkII, but she'll understand! Juha, I just spent an hour looking through your portfolio, very impressive. Great rally sequence shots and the Dallara at Le Mans is fantastic. Andy
wilsontsoi
I agree with Canon 1DmkII for indoor, or with D2X/D2Hs if staying the Nikon route. With either makes, if you still need further noise reduction, you can use Noise Ninja, Neat Image, or similar noise reduction programs.
