Photos from Tanzania - please comment

In December last year I was in Tanzania for two weeks. It was fantastic and I would love to

go back some time and stay a bit longer. I can't think of anything better to do than to

drive around in a jeep all day and take pictures.

Please check out my pictures at http://hem.passagen.se/asato/safari and let me know

what you think. I think I need to hear other people's opinion before I sell everything I own

and move to Africa :)
00F1Bx-27776184.jpg.37d80da43b1842e847feb43c2e300ada.jpg

Moonlight over Africa is a nice shot

Regarding your gallery - phew, lots of shots there. Ones which work for me are img_1623, img_1364, 1526,1671 (a bit closer would have been even better!), etc.

I find myself wishing you'd been able to fill the frame with your subjects in some of the shots.

Don't move to Africa. Not yet, at least. :)

You've got some really nice shots here. The picture of the monkey is absolutely haunting and

evidence that simple compositions often work the best. I also really like the picture of the

two boys near the tree. The dust, or flare, or whatever it is, make the photo unique to me and

gives me a bit of a feeling about what it was like to be there.

A few of the pictures, like the one of the elephant, are pretty generic. Not that they're bad.

Just that they look like a million pictures I've seen before.

In any case, keep up the good work.

Asa,

Very nice stuff!

I am especially partial to landscape pictures (not necessarily "panoramic" though) so your shots of the forest, the valleys, all are great. Wonderful colors.

I really like: #1526, #2549, #2088, #2601 (shows how "human" other lifeforms are).

#2529 could be better if the dust (?) was not there and there was a bit more background to set the stage/story. #2210 is nice but cliche (but still nice!). #2109 would be even better if the antelope (?) was looking at the jeep. #1832 brings sadness to me knowing how some of us treat the animals, their families.

I just was wondering if it wasn't a bit risky to shoot photos OF the jeep, rather than OUT of the jeep?

 • 2 weeks later...

To me the best shot is the one where the jeep is hidden by the dust of Africa... anyway I think that the light, in most of your photos, is very harsh, and the colors are faded, sort of... I know that when you are in those places at mid-day, and probably never come back you have to do your best!... keep on shooting before going on another safari!!!

Angus, shooting photos out of the jeep... was not an option is most cases ; )

Asa, this is my gallery from Tanzania

Looks great. I am a beginner so I can't offer much but admire your photos. I love the walking girrafe photo. What lense did you have with you on the trip. I am heading to Kenya in September and trying to figure out what lense I should have with me or if I should have my tripod with me too.
