david_m
It's good that they engraved the 'Bell and Howell' so nicely, unlike many re-branded cameras that just have an alternate nameplate glued over the old one. I have a B&H Canon too; its an FD35, a clone of the Canon TX.<div></div>

john falkenstine
Got a Canonet 19 at an estate sale. Perfect physical shape..but it won't work..for reasons unknown to me. Nice display piece.
Brian
The theory here is that your freak Canon is a drop-through from an alternate universe. It's the only plausible explanation.
gene m
Brian, I suspected that. You've confirmed my theory. I think the same could be said for my wife.
dan_fromm2
Guys, for most of the time that B&H were Canon's US distributor, B&H insisted on selling Canon cameras engraved with the B&H logo and with B&H model designations. You want confusion, look at advertisements in MP and PP in the early years of Super 8 for Canon S8 cameras. IMO, B&H is one of the reasons Nikon penetrated the pro market in the US and Canon didn't. george_bourke
Bell & Howell wasn't the only company to fall victim to an overly-ambitious importer. Remember: HONEYWELL Pentax? Sony SUPERSCOPE? ROBERTS (Akai)? I'm sure that many more will come to mind after I post this!
miles_s.
Gene, In 2002 someone kindly gave me a Bell and Howell marked Canonet 19. However, it is not in as nice shape as yours. I never ran film through it, but seeing your pictures makes me think I should. miles

xbow
Great pictures, and as always an interesting camera....but I have to ask- are there any "occupied" buildings in the Granby, MA area? Cheers John
warren_d__r.i._1
Hi, I just joinned the group, it was forwarded to me from an iunquriry of the Canonet Canon 1 9. I was asking a guy on an internet group about why Bell & Howell and Canon came upo with this muntant camera and what the history was. He sent me some links on this camera and it's history and reason and ryme. One of the links he forwarded was this website where you all commented on this camera. Mine has the origanal black case with both names and the instruction booklet and works flawlessly. I got mine from a lot of cameras that I got off e-bay. I am happy with this camera. Yea, it does let you take only good pictures most of the time since the electric eye is still funtional(orb when), but what I notice is it is not totally automatic, you still have to once you depress the shutter release halfway. Then it tells you what to set the apature at. But it is a fun and a teaching like camera in a way. I even have the Canon flash attachmrent for it that you can put a No.5 or M-2 bulb in. And the battery for it is a 123 photo battery. I like this camera and will hold on to it anyway for fun, plus it probably wont be sellable on e-bay anyway soon or in the future. In a way, it is ahead of it's time, kinda..don't you think? I like the pictures that where posted on this site that someone took(I forgot the name of the person). I also was fgorwarded a website that told of the story and history of this camera..lets see if I can post it for you guys..http://www.photoethnography.com/ClassicCameras/index-frameset.html?CanonCanonet19.html~mainFrame . check it out, it also tells the reasons and storys of oter cameras that you all might like too. See Ya! Warren
