dex13
I actually have 2 Minoxs that need cubes and unfortunately got burned with bad info from a website that claimed the Magi-Cube worked for the 110s and now that I also have a EC I find that I can't use the Magi-cubes I purchased online for it either. Granted, I only spent $10 but what am I going to do with these Magi-Cubes now? Talk about obsolete... What flash cube will work for the EC flash attachment? Will they also work for the 110s on-board flash port? Furthermore, are there any available on the net somewhere? TIA for any info. Photo.net forum users are definitely the most knowledgable I'm begining to find out.
MTC Photography
Magicube and X-cube used pyrotechnique, used mostly in Kodak 110 camera and not compatible with Minox. Minox uses electric triggered flashcubes, such as Sylvania flashcube,or Osram OSC4 type flashcube.
subminiature
Page 19 of the 110s manual http://www.submin.com/110/manuals/minox/110s/110s_7605e_10.jpg states that the 110s uses X-cubes. You can also use the electronic flash designed for the camera. Magicubes are X-cubes (see http://www.ozcamera.com/flash-bulbs.html). The flash cube adapter for the Minox EC uses electronic flash cubes http://www.submin.com/8x11/manuals/minox/minox_ec/ec_8104e_13.jpg The two cameras use different flash cubes. Magi-cubes work with most 110 cameras. The electronic flash for the EC has been discontinued but stocks still exist. It is expensive new at 119EUR. dex13
Gerald, The Magi-cubes that I purchased will definitely NOT work for the 110. I suspect the x-cube will though. Not sure why you are saying they will work because they do not fit, not even close. I spent $10 on "vintage" cubes and none of them fit properly, won't work for the EC adapter either. The socket does look more like an X configuration.
dex13
Martin, I think you are right, I'm just not sure where to get ahold of those types of cubes.
MTC Photography
Scott, Patient is the name of the game in watching out for your prey on the ebay. Took me 6 months to get three Jobo 16mm development reels. I have seen Sylvania cubes being offered on ebay.
subminiature
>The Magi-cubes that I purchased will definitely NOT work for the 110. The Minox 110 S? > I suspect the x-cube will though. Not sure why you are saying they will work because they do not fit, not even close. < The Minox manual says X cubes. The link I gave shows Magi-cube with X cube written on the box. I have always thought Magi-cubes are X-cubes but I do not have one to check. Looking at the Rollei, Agfa and other 110 cameras that use cube units they look similar and distinct from the electronic flash cube types that the C4 and EC adapter uses. >I spent $10 on "vintage" cubes and none of them fit properly, won't work for the EC adapter either. The socket does look more like an X configuration. < I have only seen two types of cubes, although the cubes for the EC I have seem in different sizes, one similar to the Magic-cube and some people purchased in error, which is how I got them to use with a C4 flash cube unit on a Minox C. I have the F110, so have not needed to source flash cubes for the Minox 110S. I might have to get some cubes for the Rollei A110, which has no connector for an electronic flash and only a small adapter for cubes but this uses the same cubes as the Minox EC - electrically fired flash cubes.
