2005 Canon rebate

I pre-qualified my rebates on their web site, then sent in the forms perhaps a week before

the end of December.

 

Like you I was beginning to worry when I did not see an indication at the rebate web site that

they had received my mailing. However, a few days ago (nearly a month after I sent my mail)

the web site showed that they received and approved it.

I'd say it is quite normal for these lame rebate houses to take a few weeks to show status on the web. It is too soon to worry about it.

 

I am send off mine today - that's the biggest rebate check I have even had - $560. Cannot do the prequalification because I have > 5 items but I certainly will keep copy for all the paperwork.

Another reason why rebates are so popular with manufacturers:

 

They can arbitrarily drop prices to meet unexpected competition or fluctation in sales volume, without threading all the cash back and forth through the distribution/dealer system. Can you imagine the headaches that would cause all up and down the line, if the dealer/distributor and the manufacturer had to deal with all that crap?

 

Also, when a rebate ends, it's not perceived the same as raising the price, in the consumer's head, although, that's exactly what happened.

I've never had a problem with Canon rebates in the past, but as of today, it's been 10 weeks since my claim forms/items were received by the rebate processing company (for the largest rebate I've ever requested, $500).

 

I called their customer service number and was told "everything is fine, but you'll need to wait another 4 weeks for the check". 14 weeks! When their stated turnaround time on the form was "6-8 weeks". I asked who I could send a complaint to and the rep told me that no one at either the rebate company or at Canon USA could be contacted. I'm amazed that Canon would want to treat it's professional photographers this way. Anyone else having a problem with getting their larger rebate checks back?
