Identify a Leica DRP? What model is this? Value?

I have inherited a Leica DRP that was bought new around 1950. The

serial number on the body is 689546. The 50mm/f3.5 Elmar does not

have a serial number that I can see. The camera needs a good cleaning

from being in storage. What model is this? What will be the value of

the camera after it has been serviced? Thanks.

Depends a LOT on condition. But these are not rare cameras, probably 50,000 made of that model. Consider that Leica's serial numbers really did start at 1, altough they aren't completely densely used.

You're talking somewhere around $200 to $400. More if the Elmar is coated, and has red numbers in the focusing scales.

Be careful cleaning, it's VERY easy to ruin a lens with improper cleaning technique.

Louis is absolutely right. I was reading the serial number upside down. The true number is 1089586. Thank you John for the comment on cleaning. I suspect that the lens has some internal fungus. It is visible as a fine white net in the picture. First question: Can the lens be saved? Second, who can do the job? Third question, the body covering (leatherette or whatever) is brittle and breaks away, can anybody repair that?<div>00ExZa-27684784.jpg.717bd4b7157600145009c5ad7e810fd4.jpg</div>
