Most Photogenic Countries in Europe?

Britt,

I live in The Netherlands and I have visited quite a few other European countries in the last years: England, Belgium, Luxemburg, Sweden, Denmark, Germany, France, Switzerland, Monaco, Austria, Czech Republic, Italy, Hungary, Greece, Spain.

They all had something to offer but I really liked Denmark and Sweden (though expensive). You're considering Spain, France, Italy, Switzerland, and Greece. In those countries, I would recommend the following places:

Spain: Madrid, Toledo, Barcelona, Mallorca and the Canaries.

France: the Cote D'Azur coast and the Provence region.

Italy: Cities such as Verona, Bergamo, Palermo and the mount Etna region on Sicily.

Switzerland: the central region.

Greece: Crete

Places to avoid: Monaco (there is nothing to see there apart from a few fast cars), Nothern France (boring), Milan (unless you want to shop and have big $$$$).

Have fun!
00EhI3-27241084.jpg.9e5735b4633d8417974731c5bff97a81.jpg

I forgot to mention Budapest, in my opinion one the 'diamonds' of Europe. Why not follow the Donau river? Start off in the beautiful German mountains of the Black Forest and follow the river until you reach Budapest. Along the way you'll come across some of the most beautiful regions and classic cities of Central Europe only to be stunned by your final destination; the great city of Budapest.

Britt, or anyone else who's interested in an answer to your question, of the places I've been

to and those I'd like to go to, here's a short list:

* Prague is counted as the most picturesque city in all of Europe. I guess that's

debatable, but it's still very beautiful.

* Rural Mid-to-Northern Italy. OK, so you miss out on the Colosseum and so

forth, but you also escape the city's rudeness and get to see some lovely

countryside.

* The Greek Islands. Pick your spots though. They provide some of the most

photographed locations ever and will be overflowing with tourists at that time of the year,

but some are relatively quiet all year round. I recommend Patmos and Crete.

* Turkey. Maybe land at Kusadasi and go through the ruins of ancient Ephesus,

visit the markets in town, and see what you feel like doing after that.

 • 3 weeks later...

Britt,

May I suggest, for the sake of your photography, that you take those few weeks you

have......and travel around Ohio as if you were a foreigner! As if you were seeing it

for the first time.If you really consider Ohio to be boring(I have photographed

your state for the Smithsonian and for two books and Ohio is NOT a boring

state!)then I fear you will come back from Europe with boring photographs. You

really need to recapture the magic of the mundane!! Spend your time getting

reacquainted with the visual excitement that can be experienced right THERE!

And you may find that in exploring the state from the remnant Great Black Swamp

to the Wayne National Forest to the vanishing rural "think ruins"architecture of

the backroads as well as the Lake Erie waterscapes that range from Bird refuges to

Industrial architectures....that there is SO much where you are.I fear for your

photography if you go to the "photogenic" places.Another midwesterner once

said"Theres no place like home...."..Check out my website

www.garyirving.com...you will see images from the American West,Romania, but

also.....Illinois,Indiana,Nebraska(what..NEBRASKA?)and yes...even Ohio!..There is

something everywhere for the eyes.

Never use the term "boring" again!
00F02v-27742784.thumb.jpg.a2819946577bd243a197aa727c449497.jpg
