Warranty Service on non-USA lens

Well, it looks like I will find out what kind of warranty service Don Chatterton provides on his non-USA Leica lenses. The 1.4X APO extender I bought in August goes on my R8 rather tightly but I thought this was only a matter of mismatched tolerances. Today I discovered that when I use the 1.4X entender, the lens aperture does not display in the viewfinder. Usually when I remove the 1.4X and use the 2X or no extender, the aperture displays correctly again. But on one occasion after using the 1.4X, none of my lenses displayed the aperture for several minutes before it began working again. The problem always occurs with the 1.4X.

Has anyone else had this problem? Is there danger of the extender damaging my R8? Has anyone had good or bad experiences with Don and his warranty on non-USA lenses? Does he have the unit repaired when you return it to him or does he insist you send it directly to someone else? Would appreciate any helpful information before I call him this week. Thanks. LB
