derek e.
In the photos link (after you click on the announcement) it looks like there are four lenses shown. Wonder what the other two are? D

donald_ingram1
Zeiss have given us a clue to the next lenses : Checking a depth of field table : I get a 35/2 and a 30f/2 - Just what's needed for the DX sensors.<div></div>
jonas_yip1
re: the other lenses in the pictures: one says makro-planar, so perhaps a 60mm f/2 macro. The other says distagon, so maybe a 28/2? Just guesses. In any case, my wallet is not happy about this development... j
jonas_yip1
hmm.. someone was able to photoshop faster than i could type...
michaelkh
I can't see anything to tell whether or not these lenses are AI-P or not - any ideas? Not that I can afford one anyway...
vivek iyer
I don't see any chip on these. Let us see what CV will churn out.
leicaglow
They say the pricing will be competitive with existing Nikon lenses. That's interesting! They will be available in Spring '06. I remember the Zeiss Ikon camera line announcement and the release of product seemed way behind schedule.
jae_myung_shim
Who's making these lenses? Contax, Yashica, Cosina..?
leicaglow
They've GOT to be manual focus lenses. Two quotes in the interview: "They will recognize that ZF lenses come with much larger rotation angles for the focus rings, like the cinematography lenses we make for Hollywood." "The other reason for buying Zeiss ZF instead of Nikon is much simpler: Nikon just announced it was discontinuing the manufacture of manual focus lenses." I like that he already has his D200 on order! He also adds the lenses are made by Cosina in Japan: "The production is done at the Cosina factory in Japan under the watchful eye of Carl Zeiss employees in charge of quality assurance. erik_loza
If they make a 100mm Macro that goes 1:1 and has a round diaphragm, I will buy it.
jeff h.
I'm waiting for a ZF Biogon lens (if that lens design will work for a SLR)! A 35/2 would be great on my FM2n. The Zeiss 45/2.8 "Pancake" is nice too (but then, so is the Nikkor 45/2.8P I already have). I'd be in heaven with the 15/3.5 Distagon! Waiting...checking wallet.... arnabdas
They don't have to be AF, but having no CPU will severely limit the target market to a handful of people.
daniel_ob
Guys it looks like mmmmmy F6 on that pppict. It looks like Germ*n submarine in Japanes* water firung aroung to pay back for AG*A. They talk about Can*n also. Or they think Cann*n. Faty Berta again. Eh Nikon, sorry.
cmonkey
Daniel, Not to open THAT can of worms, but I thought it interesting that they essentially accused Nikon of stealing the Contax camera design from them--like that made it OK to sell Zeiss lenses for Nikon cameras. daniel_ob
Yes 2.8/100 macro is 1:1 with image close to Leica. It will cost also close to Leica 100mm, around $3000. Well and Mercedes is expensive. Up to you and your photography. I already opened home account for one or two new lenses.
patricks
I'd love to get a 50/1.4 or 35/2. I've been waiting for this type of announcement for quite some time. New D200 in the bag, some ZF glass this spring. Life is good! :-)
daniel_ob
Cheryl do you doubt it. It is public secret. Leica got Olympus in court too (for OM1), but Japanese law let them go. Copy copy. Well now it turns it was bad way. Good for Zeiss. He he he hick.
daniel_ob
Gone to B&H it is now more interesting.
dan_brown14
I wish Zeiss all the best with this effort. It is heart-warming to me that digital SLR's (D2x & D200) have progressed to the point where superlative performance, fast, fixed focal length lenses are in (apparent) demand. As opposed to wunder-zooms only mentality.
rjm photo
With the exception of a 21mm ZF design similar to a Biogon, I'll stick to my new autofocus 35mm F2 Nikkor and my very high image quality (for the most part) and very high build quality (all) AIS and non-AI Nikkor lenses I have collected throughout the years. These lenses were first rate products when they were newly released and continue to be so today. I don't think a new lens can make one a better photographer.....but having a new lens might make one think they are a better photographer.......just my two cents worth. vivek iyer
Your two cents are wrong. Besides the usual p.net wisdom, you can not mount a Biogon on a modern Nikon SLR or dSLR.
rjm photo
Thanks Vivek...but when they design a 21mm with very low distortion as a Biogon I'll buy one. Thanks for your other comments...
