tim_f__lake_forest_
I purchased a 20D last year and about 4 months ago I started seeing a problem where everytime I remove/charge the main battery I have to reset the data/time in the camera when I reinsert the battery. I have replaced the smaller date/time battery, inserted a shim to push that battery against contacts, etc. with no success. Has anyone experienced this problem? Thanks! Rob_L1664876404
Tim, The date/time backup battery in the 20D should last for several years (I bought my 20D with the first wave and have had no need to change the battery yet). Have you checked your replacement battery with a voltmeter? If the voltage is OK, you might have a true circuit problem. A similar battery for backing up EPROM memory in my wife's sythesizer lasted for seven years!
michael_ziegler2
Your back-up battery is gone. This battery is what holds the date when you remove the main battery. So, when you remove the main, you loose the settings.
andy_van_eynde
Michael...that is the battery (CR2016 i believe it is called) that he already replaced!
tim_f__lake_forest_
Rob, Good suggestion on the voltmeter.... however after doing the voltmeter test I have found that the date/time battery (CR2016) is good. So I removed/reinserted the main battery and unfortunately had to reset the date/time again. Thanks
steve_dunn2
Hmm ... ...well, if the battery's OK, then either the contacts are not, or something is wrong with the 20D itself. Dirty contacts on the lensmount and on the main battery are not uncommon problems; you will find gazillions of them in the archives. I haven't heard of this happening with the button cell in the 20D or similar cameras, but hey, anything's possible. Try cleaning the battery itself, and see if you can get something in there to clean the contacts on the camera in the little slot where this battery is installed - maybe a q-tip moistened in rubbing alcohol.
tim_f__lake_forest_
Just to close this out... I took my 20D back to the retailer (Best Buy) I bought it from to get this problem fixed and after they looked at it for a few mins., they just handed me a new one! Breaks my heart! I guess it helped to have purchased that extended warranty they offer when I bought the camera in Dec. of '04. I had pushed about 3000 photos through my old one and it had scratches on the body & the LCDs. I have no idea at this point what the battery problem was on this so I canメt pass that along, but I am back in business with a new 20D & kit lens. keith_danekind
I have the same problem. I have replaced the time/date battery and that did not fix the problem. Keith
