"real" fashion

Hello everyone

I'm a quite frequent guest at the photo.net's Gallery and Critique

Forum. I'm especially interested in fashion photography and even

though there's a lot of great, wonderful stuff to see here, the

fashion-category in my opinion mostly lacks what I would expect to

be "real" fashion photography like what we get to see in magazines.

Are there any websites or communities out there where photographers

share a kind of work which could be more closely called "fashion"?

Or are people who are able to create this kind of art already

too "pro" to share their hard work in communities like photo.net?

Thanks a lot and best regards

Wolfgang

Having been one myself many moons ago before getting into feature films, I would say

that they are just to busy, not 'too pro'. Its a tough market...<BR>

Some of these photographers on PN are also real pros, but for PN, they also have a chance to upload the fashion photos of their own personal vision, but the client's vision. There is a difference. Those photos don't look like what you see in magazines, but that fact doesn't necessarily mean that they are not taken by the pros.

Most 'real' fashion photos are copyrighted and the photographer would have no right to post them here. The photographer is actually just one small component leading to the final image. There are stylists, make-up artists, hairdressers and photo assistants all involved in creating the images.<div>00Dprf-26030484.jpg.1078b19634893197b0fd495110f426e5.jpg</div>

I normally post in the fashion forum, not every picture I post there is typical fashion but is the best category I can find. Perhaps it should be more categories? I miss one for the models photos not fashion and not portrait but something in between.<div>00Dq7i-26036784.jpg.def6466a157152a889defee4d8c13b2a.jpg</div>

Shooting for mags requiers top stylist, top makeup, top hairdresser, top clothes, top location or studio and TOP MODEL. What do you expect from people shooting for themseleves or doing testing jobs for model agencies? If you pay for the above mentioned you don't show these photos in photo.net gallery but you try to sell it or at least publish it in any fashion magazine, dude.

Just take your camera and shoot and stop complaining.

I know what you mean, Wolfgang. I am studying fashion/creative photography because i really love how you can bring out such emotion and beauty in a person. I find it hard to research how to pose models (or un-pose them). I've spent countless hours online and in book stores trying to research the matter.

Sometimes what makes a fashion shoot so great is the fact that they take their shot naturally as the moment happens, or let their model move about instead of posing them in an unnatural, boring, tasteless way. I hired my photographer for three different events because she does mostly fashion style shoots; she is a member of photo.net, but doesn't post her work here. http://www.tanjalippertphotography.com. check out her fashion gallery for some examples or inspiration. I also found that working with her as a model/subject taught me creative photography techniques.

I bought a few books on lighting techniques for studio/outdoors, which i think really distinguishes the 'pros' from the rest of us who are trying to achieve that look, but aren't getting it. Also, finding a great lab to develop your film and make your prints are key. If you have any experience in photoshop, you can also make minor adjustments to the images if you have your lab scan the negatives onto a cd. Any fashion magazine will admit altering their images to perfect the overall quality of their images! Also, add a little sparkle to your model (assuming there is no stylist) with some make up like subtle lip gloss--it makes all the difference.

I agree that there should be a few more catagories relating to this field, but it's hard to label them. I recently found a website which was really inspiring. check out http://www.ftv.com/fashion/fashion_links.asp?letter=&cat=photographer.

I hope this helps.
