juan monino
Could any one explain me the benefits of this new flash system from Nikon? If I get one...do I still need the sd800?

vivek iyer
The image looks like what Nikon said would be the flash alright.

rick_beets
This flash is designed for macro work, ie: photographing small objects, coins, stamps, jerwelry, etc.
vivek iyer
Yeak, Eric knows. It will still have enough juice for people shots (crank up the ISO if need be).
EricM
thanks Rick, yeah, I'm aware of the market for it, but can see it being okay (maybe cool look?) for tight tight tight head shots Vivek, crankin...
hendrik_van_rooyen
Just received mine today. Awsome kit! Apart from being a great macro setup the wireless commander is a great tool to get the SB800 flashes away and off camera without any wires. schleprock21
I don't think you want to use that on people. Red Eyes. Direct reflection back into the lens. Not good.
EricM
I'm not sure. I'd have to try it. I'd cover them with some 216 or opal and have to see.
vivek iyer
An SB-30 (or similar) don't do anything bad to people shot. A more direct comparison, the Cokin Creative flash (3 flash heads) is simply superb. I have used this with a 105mm lens on FM2s. Very nice! The beauty of the new macro flash head is that it can be oriented in different places (as long you have the right edge to clip them) and you can always add more units. I think up to eight flash heads.
EricM
Maybe i'll just cover the inside of a bunt cake tin with some foil, stick my lens through it and bounce the flash heads of the center of it.
hendrik
The kit has a set of filters & diffusers included.
