richard_allen3
Hello, I am a newbie, both on photo.net and to large format photography. While building a Bender 4x5 kit camera that I bought on ebay, I'm thinking about the various ramifications in producing images that are acceptable and one discussion that I have searched the forums for and had no luck in finding, is adjustments in exposure while using flash. My question is this, do you make the same type of adjustment in exposure for bellows extension as you would for available light? Light is light, right? I know it's a dumb question... And for magnifications less than 1:10, in practice no adjustment needed.

dave schlick
given the expense of the film, and the camera, and flash setups and time spent trying to get an image that will produce over 20x30 prints, the best way to do flash work with large format is with a flash meter.. if your guessing you might as well use a smaller/ cheaper format as the final product will probably be just as good unless your using a polaroid back or can leave the camera setup indoors while developing black and white prints to make adjustments..especially with closeups.. a good flash meter can give you proper exposures with up to 10 pops on the flash to increase depth of field.. ..my opinion only.. dave.. joe_photo
Steve Grimes used to say, "There's no such thing as a dumb question, but dumb people do ask questions". Not applying that to anyone here just passing it on.
yanglee
"There's no such thing as a dumb question, but dumb people do ask questions" But that doesn't automatically make a question dumb. Dumb people sometime asks pretty good questions. Again, does NOT apply to anyone here.
